John Jordan GT40 as raced in many libre events and special GT races in the late 60s. John was also famous for his antics flying his Stearman biplane to Snett and Silverstone, memorably flying under the 'Motor' footbridge across the pit staight at Silverstone and taking down the telephone wires across the track!

Yes TimD
It is Cyd Williams. His first race car! He bought the car from John Cardwell who is now a director of the BRDC. He later changed the colour of the stripes to red, but still retained the gold.
I had the pleasure of sharing a glass of wine or two with the pair of them recently on the Sunday evening after the GP. I have many of Cyd's photos of his cars on loan, as I have just finished a 'montage' painting of the important cars from his career. I'll post it in Armchair Enthusiast if you like once Cyd approves the finished painting.

Nice pic. It is Brands Hatch GP circuit at South Bank.
Not sure either who is in the Jag - can't make out the registration number. Cortina could be Arundell or Gardner I suppose.

1628 VC on the Jag, FOO 230 for the GT, I had to shrink it to post, I think there where three GT's racing Pre-Lotus, 2 Willment, the other being 229 and another, difficult to tell what colour it was in B+W, but I believe ran by Alan Mann? no plate on it either, but probably FOO 228

Apparently none of these cars survive . . .so Im very very slowly building my own (not that Id be able to afford an original works car!)

this pic is from there 1st race visit and win in the US I think.

Now, doesn't 1628VC still survive though? I'm sure that was the number on Tiff Needell's Jaguar at Goodwood these last two years.

Yes, that car 1628VC is owned by Jonathan Suckling of The Lloyds Motor Club and has been driven at the Goodwood revival by Tiff and also Win Percy. It is original.

I love all the images, brings back all sorts of memories from Brands and Crystal Palace. But is there anyway we could get these in a seperate area with thumbnail photos ?

I really like the one with the Pan Am 707 and the 3 Cortinas about to be loaded.

Simon

PS Thanks for sharing the memories !

Thanks Andrew - look forward to it! As we are into 60s stuff here I thought I would attach a photo of a Tecno racing at Magny-cours in '69 with Patrick Champin driving. Mine is also a 69 model and now in stunning yellow and white! Apparently they were *****es to drive in period - they haven't changed much!!

HELP! Can't reduce file - any suggestions welcomed!

Jenny, please check your private messages in 'My Forum'

To reduce the size of the file, best to make the maximum length of the longest side of the photo 400 pixels.
