One of the better races I've seen for a while and a great way to start the season. Shame the Red flag came out when it did because it was really hotting up to be an excellent race, with some interesting strategies waiting to unfold, though the Red flag certainly didn't help Ferrari and Vettel's strategy. However, the Red flag didn't detract from the race, which managed to keep up most of the momentum it had before the race was stopped.

Great to see Haas make their debut with an excellent 6th. I hope they continue to deliver.

Not a lot of love lost at Toro Rosso.

As for the crash itself, it looked like Alonso misjudged it and the result was a racing incident, horrific as it was and it does say a lot about the construction of a modern F1 car.

7 from me - good race with plenty going on, alternate strategies looked like they'd all come together towards the end and definitely not a cakewalk for the Benz boys.

So happy to see Alonso walk away from that suit too - no doubt he'll be sore tomorrow though.

Makes a nice change,with lots happening and the Toro Rosso Kids having a good dice with their Ferrari lumps creating great racing and overtakes.Meanwhile super debut for Haas.All in all a good weekend only spoilt by the dreadful qualifying.
Please go back to the original and we have a proper Race weekend!!

Given Melbourne and F1 usually produce v dull races this one was OK.

The top 7 mixed up nicely at the start, some passing throughout the field and enough interest to keep me awake.

What could have made it better?

Not allowing tyre changes during the red flag stoppage. But it was still better than watching cars cruising around behind the pace car.
Easier overtaking. It worries me for the rest of the season that passing seemed to difficult.

I generally like the confines of Melbourne and generally excited about the start of the season, but this seemed a bit meh for openers. Maybe it was it came after Sebring

Also, sour grapes too after Ferrari showed that we might get something a little different than last year. Nope.

No no no! This was perfect. Drivers having to work to overtake and when they did, the majority of them were proper moves. Refreshing to see, bearing in mind most passes nowadays happen in a straight line thanks to the travesty that is DRS.

That.

I gave it an 8 because there was lots of action and so many strategies playing out. Let down slightly because of the (completely reasonable) red flag, which totally screwed up various peoples' strategy.

Happy to see Alonso walk away. Wow, there was so little of the car left and it was all crumpled up against the wall - really scary. Looked even more mangled than McNish's big wreck at Le Mans.

Big props to Haas F1 and Roman Grosjean. What a start for them! Sure they were helped by all the strategy weirdness, but even so - great result.

I hadn't watched a Grand Prix for about two years, and now randomly decided to give this series a chance again, and was positively surprised how solid the race was. I mean, Q was total crap and the overall product obviously has it's numerous faults, but I was moderately entertained by the race. Plus the location is great as always. Really glad for Haas.
