Being ripped off by the transponder people again!!
I note that the old Transx 260 is now no longer available new and you have to buy the new X2 with a choice of 1,2 or 5 year subscriptions now….

seems a bit of a monopoly for a relatively simple low tech device…..

No outright purchase available on the new kit??

If you've looked at the website I guess you already have the answer!

The new transponders have been discussed recently on tea break thread, as a couple of tenthers have been needing to buy. Some good info posted there from Max during last month.

The alternative is to try and get a used old type from another racer or a certain online auction site......

If you go to TSL's site you can still buy the old type at a bargain price of £550 or thereabouts and MY laps/TSL will accept either.

Where is the competition commission when you need them…

UK Motorsport.. an all inclusive activity.

Having looked at prices on fleabay I'm now thinking of cutting down to one and swapping between cars! The money made could pay for a few races.......

The latest "rumours" are that AMB are potentially going to stop the 260 from working in perhaps 3-4 years time??

I can see an uproar in a couple of years.

I don't know why we put up with such practise!!

Technology become obsolete. It really is no different to having to upgrade other electronic gadgets because they are no longer supported, or the software isn't.

Having said that, Tim's idea is spot on- they could well be worthless in few years time! Keep mum and cash in now......

It wasn't meant to be a cashing in exercise Mike (well I suppose it is) if I was going to be racing over the next couple of years I'd keep them until they are obsolete but as I wont be racing there's no point in keeping them when they could at least pay for a few beers now.

Hmmm, maybe I should delete this and all future transponder threads until they're sold

Unless I've misread they are offering some form of trade in on the 260 against the new system so It may be worth looking into that.

They're not giving money off but are uplifting the contract length by 50% for an AMB trade-in. Example, €345 will buy 7.5 years validity instead of 5..

The new thing doesn't obviously do anything that the current ones don't, it all sounds like 'jam tomorrow'.
