.......NZ TV feed........................

I believe there is a major problem with the Optus B1 satellite that carrys sport in and out of NZ.

ATM it is spinning out of contol after a repositionong move last night.

Does this mean no AGP and Supercars for NZ (and Rugby Union) this weekend.

In the long term if it's not fixed by April 23 will we see the Pukekohe round LIVE....or are the super cars sent on another feed??

If any one has any info on this please post.

Sounds like someone is getting excited over nothing (spinning 'out of control'?)

You got your satellite back this morning.

Hi All

Ah well, makes no difference to NZ'ers for supercar coverage this weekend, we don't get it anyway, simple as that!

If you had UHF Sky, you would still have coverage of Sky Sport One, it was only satellite coverage for Sky transmissions in NZ knocked out (in fact it's a bugger they fixed it or everyone in NZ could watch the AGP for free since they had unscrambled the UHF signal for sky sport one because of the satellite outage).

Our coverage of V8's here is on free to air tv with TVNZ, so as far as I know, it wouldn't have been affected?

Actually it shows how little some people really know about geo-stationary satellites. Twice a year they have to be either moved or limited in their operation because of their alignment between their solar panels and the sun. This period is usually around the times of the equinox - right about now.

I heard about this on the early morning news....

Quote:
Due to this stabilisation system not working, the satellite is spinning around and is currently unable to receive control telemetry signals from earth. The telemetry antenna is facing the sun and not able to receive any commands from the base station. With the antenna facing the sun, thermal noise increases making it even harder to get commands through to the satellite's processors.

Unless Optus manages to regain telemetry to the satellite, fears are that it may be lost forever. It is not known at this stage what if any backup Sky has for its transmission services, should the B1 not be recoverable.

.... all fixed now.........
