Contrary to the belief of some. What pray tell would be good about, losing a marque, arguably the best team in Motor Sports, the dominant team for nearly a decade and the reigning World Champion of Sports Car Racing??

hang on here, i didn't say it was good or bad
positives of them going away; competition might get better below them, more chances of winning, less domination
negatives, well publicity, and missing out maybe in the long run of audi V peugeot.

up to dr ulrich really...

Not likely against a factory team, but why take the risk?

How close was a P2 car to an overall win in the LMS last year??? There were no factories there to fight against...

Right now no one knows why the entry list isn't out yet (except a handful of people directly envolved in the process)
or one could tell chevy and p&m to enter gt2

Top 5, but they weren't full factory P2's with constant development.

Audi has to deliver the best car for the comming cotumers, and for that they have to race i an serie which all the cars are racing within the same rules.

Im ALMS there are special rules for Audi ... they ar going for the ACO 207 rules, but the other are going for the ACO 2007 with the IMSA changes

I think that we will see Audi perhaps going for Petit in ALMS and perhaps nothing else after LM. They just have to sell the R10's to there costumers.

Once again look at the Le Mans series. There are som many cars in all categories. But in ALMS you have Corvette in GT1 Audi in LMP1. LMP2 & GT2 are still good class'es
Oreca has said they would only consider racing an LMP late 2008 and or 2009 season.

What customer is going to find the $$$$ to buy an R10? and then there are the running costs...

Customers like the one who bought two new Lola P1's, then ditched them for two new Porsche P2's?

Exactly. In the ALMS, it has been Audi vs. Penske/Porsche, and the gap between P1 and P2 is clear. In the LMS, it was privateer vs. privateer, and the gap between P1 and P2 is clear.
