Le Mans 24 Hours Game
OK, I have that game (the one with the Dandy Warhols theme music) but it won't work on Windows XP! This is an awesome game that I really loved to play but everytime I load it it crashes! HELP!!!

It does run on Windows XP - sometimes...
I ran on my old Win98 machine. The next PC we bought had WinXP and it didn't run. Now I can run it on my WinXP laptop. The Le Mans mode itself doesn't seem to work though. I have absolutely no idea what it is that allows or disallows it to run, but clearly there must be something to do with your overall system configuration that prevents it from running. I've not been able to find anything on the subject while trawling the net. It's not that great a game though, let's be honest. The cars are alright, 95% of the tracks are ficticious, and the car handling is arcady at best. |

If you right click on the icon and go to properties, on one of the tabs should be something that says compatibility, where you can change it so that XP reconises it as a legacy program. You can then choose to run it as a win 98 program.

If you want offline entertainment: GTR2 will have the 24h of Spa.
If you want to take part in online 24h races with working driver changes: Live fo Speed. It might have fantasy cars and tracks, but the physics are on par with the best of simulations and none is better in the multiplayer department and especially long distance racing online. |

The best bit : the fake tracks are quite nice. The worst bit : Tiff Needell is annoying as hell doing game voiceovers. |

I've somehow ended up with both the PS1 and PS2 versions....
But... just No. They're awful. |

The best thing to do is this:
1, Get yerself on ebay 2, Buy Sega Dreamcast 3, Get hold of copy of the 'original' 24 Hours of Le mans game 4, Hook said Dreamcast and game up to TV 5, Invite friends around and do full '24 Hour' race over a weekend (Get beers in to accomodate too!) HTH The Dreamcast version was spot on, fantastic graphics, real circuits, and a full grid of cars on track with you at the same time. |

The Dreamcast version is brilliant, still got it.
By far the best version of the game and doesn't even look dated - graphics are right up there with good Xbox/PS2 standard racers and it looks ten times better than the mega shoddy PS2 version. Very much recommended. |

Any idea how much a Dreamcast will set me back these days?

Or do the same, replacing dreamcast with Playstation 1. Or buy the PS1 version and run it in a PS2.
