They haven't said exactly what the cause of the failures was, but it does seem strange that the very reliable engine has all the sudden become unreliable. Fantastic pace from LMP1 NH.

I guess we could be in for a good race at least in the first couple of laps.
Sadly even Rebellion seems like it will find it hard to make it to the end.

I just hope that SMP and Rebellion will not be slowed down by fresh EOT, ACO can do it any time before the race, right?

During the qualifying coverage I heard that ART is behind the SMP Racing LMP1 effort which was new to me. Was that the case last year already?

Second question: Why is this the last outing for the Dragonspeed BR1?

Also, any background about why exactly ByKolles swapped the Nissan engine for the Gibson?

Dragonspeed remain with an LMP2 focus in sportscars (but likely only ELMS), and outside that they're ramping up an Indycar effort.

As Victor had said it's basically cash limits. They are a self sponsored team and there isn't enough cash to go around. They are trying to run a closer to the front Indy team full time next season and the LMP1 car just doesn't make the money of the LMP2 program for them.

I believe Kolles was blowing up/breaking engines, Nissan didn't want to make a couple changes to help it run as a rear engine, so they went with an engine that has proved itself reliable. Well maybe not the upgraded unit in the Rebellions so far.

Is this Fakennews or has anyone any more insight into that?

There have been a whole bunch of stewards' decisions published though which had some laptimes for the Toyotas deleted due to fuel flow or ERS limit violations/glitches, as well as laptimes in GTE deleted due to overrev/overboost moments.

I'm right there with you on that, a shame such a fixture for the last 15 years won't be on the track this year. He's been "our" American Porsche factory driver and I say that with pride, major talent and always a class act. Such a dedicated driver it just will not be the same without him. BUT at his age, he can still shoot for the 16 years again, he'll only be about 54 by that time - why not!
