LMP2 style Formula 2 ruleset?
I have no problem with GP2, but more recently its not quite had the Formula 1 feeder series effect that it used to with a few champions and top drivers recently missing out on F1. I have also seen discussion about F2 on the forum, which got me thinking.....
So why not mix it up a little bit and add some more interest by creating an LMP2 style rules set for a F2/GP2 replacement series. So i am thinking open chassis, tyre and engine competition with cost capped cars. LMP2 runs this style of racing and it works out quite well. The cars are funded by amateurs, while this series would be funded by well backed youngsters who are already forking out a reputed 1.5million for a GP2 season, so theres some of the cash sorted. Open competition would foster developments and money from engine and tyre manufacturers, while most importantly it would provide business for struggling chassis manufacturers (though may annoy dallara). It would also continue to be a good, if not better training ground for young engineers. The engine/chassis manufacturers would be welcome to field their own teams (al la OAK, Lotus and next year Mazda in LMP2) though as stated they would still need to stick to cost caps. Soo, why not i challenge you intelligent folk, what do you think of the idea? |

The owners & Dallara won't allow it. It's much more logical and better than what we have now, but they wont allow it.

What would be even cooler is if this formula was somewhere where a driver could make a career of it.

why not? Why do Bruno Michel not look in such options to reduce the budgetr problems? He cannot be proud to have two years in which the champion do not climb up to F1.
