Pole in GT for Sylvain Tremblay in the Speedsource Mazda in front of Andy Lally in a TRG Porsche, Martin Ragginger in the Autometrics Porsche and Jeff Segal in the 2nd Speedsource car.

Audi Racer has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
Why do all the porsche guys complain about power. They clearly have the most. Originally i thought the BMW had the most top end.

CGR looking a little more on-it when it comes to race pace at night, they will come ready to win though they may not have the fastest car in the field. Certainly not quick enough to chase back if they have a problem, but then who is in this field these days?

One of the real problems with the DP level of parity - nobody can chase back in the 24 and provide that classic drama, not since the AJR Crawford's early days. Remember Lucas Luhr, Mike Rockenfeller and Patrick Long charging through the night in 2006, grabbing 8 laps back in 9 hours from the Ganassi car? That's what endurance classics need, and that is too scarce now in the Rolex.

The top-five in qualifying today were the following teams:

1. Brumos Porsche (No. 58 Porsche Riley) with David Donohue, Darren Law, Buddy Rice and Antonio Garcia (1:40.540 at 127.472 mph)

2. Penske Racing (No. 16 Porsche Riley) with Timo Bernhard, Ryan Briscoe and Romain Dumas (1:40.541 at 127.470 mph)

3. Michael Shank Racing (No. 6 Ford Riley) with Michael Valiante, John Pew, A.J. Allmendinger and Ian James (1:40.651 at 127.331 mph)

4. Krohn Racing (No. 76 Ford Lola) with Ricardo Zonta, Nic Jonsson and Darren Turner (1:40.892 at 127.027 mph)

5. Alegra Motorsports (No. 22 BMW Riley) with Ryan Dalziel, Carlos de Quesada, Chapman Ducote, Jean-Francois Dumoulin and Tomas Enge (1:40.915 at 126.998 mph)

** Unfortunately Danica's team Childress-Howard Motorsports in the #2 Pontiac Crawford lost an engine during qualifications and will have to start 18th which is the back of the Daytona Prototype grid.

Which, let's be honest, is where they would have qualified anyway. That car is just not sorted. I have the feeling that with the AT&T money walking, they basically raced the car once and then garaged it until winter tests...

The scaling-back of the Pontiac program is showing. So, it seems, may the scaling-back of AIM's sponsor budget.

Great run by Martin Ragginger in qualifying for Autometrics showing that, in spite of some rocky stuff in Supercup, his Carrera Cup and ALMS Detroit performances are honest in indicating he is the real deal. Will be interesting to see how Marco Holzer runs as well, another up-and-coming Porsche driver.

I'm not so sure, about that. At last year's Le Mans it wasn't the faster car that made its way back in the rain, and I am pretty sure Penske, Ganassi or Gainsco could mount quite an impressive charge against one of the Shank cars or an ailing Lola. With the multitude of FCYs at Daytona pit-strategy is crucial for a good result and Penske are second to none when it comes to that.

I have a strange feeling they'll be there at the end, fighting for the win. There car was mightily consistant compared to others in practice yesterday

I don't know if they have a stream this year.

I'm suprised that the brumos porsche is on pole.I know that porsche has put in alot of effort into their new 4.0L V6 engine.Their were confident that is could compeitive, but i excepted that 5.0L V8 ford & lexus would faster, especially in qualifying and the engines were running in their top fuel-map.I don't think that CGR was holding back because they are only down 0.5 sec.consistant lap times are a good indication, but that doesn't tell the hole story. Some teams have all ready found their set-up and are trying new things.today teams will try to improve or fine tune their set up.but CGR will be in a position to win the race.all the teams will start the race with new engines in the back of their cars.

Murphy’s Rolex Punting Rools

Last year, the Bear picked five favorites for the Daytona win, and went 1-2-3with three of them. Suddenly all the punters are clamoring to know how Murphy does it. Well here’s the Poop, five rules for picking the Rolex (the other two are Bear secrets):

1. Riley only. Are you kidding? The first non-Riley was 15th, eight in class. Domination, baby.
2. Teams you’ve heard of, even if you’ve been in a cave. Ganassi (that’s three in a row), Penske, GAINSCO, Brumos. They have guys who know how to screw down lug nuts.
3. No oil billionaire drivers, no scrawny girls. No drivers with the same name as the team.

Rolex Favorites

Here are Murphy’s by-the-rools five favorites for the 2009 Rolex. Look familiar?

01 Ganassi - Dixon, Montoya, Pruett, Rojas – Lexus / Riley
02 Ganassi - Dixon, Franchitti, Lloyd, Pruett – Lexus / Riley
16 Penske Racing - Bernhard,Brisco, Dumas – Porsche / Riley
58 Brumos Racing - Donohue, Garcia, Law, Rice – Porsche / Riley
99 GAINSCO - Fogarty, Gurney, Johnson, Vasser – Pontiac / Riley

While Murphy's rules worked pretty well last year, didn't a car with Milka Duno finish second two years ago? Or does he consider her not a "scrawny girl" like Danica?
