'03 Astc???
Our hearts must go...let's move onto the '03 season or lack thereof. So ASTEM has not announced their '03 plans officially?

We've pretty much been discussing all this in the '02 Astc thread.

If were are going to start a new thread for Supertourers, I think it should be called "Supertouring down under".
That way it doesn't matter whether they are racing in their own series, with sports sedans, in a club race, track day, hillclimb or Bathusrt 24hrs. That title would cover both Australia and New Zealand and as Crash Test says, it probably could be kept going until 07, by which stage the early 1990's Supertourers will be nearly eligable for Historic status, so the thread could gain a new lease of life. The Astc this year will be racing under the Masters Series banner, with Future Tourers and maybe Trucks at some rounds.

I thought that the Future Tourers got dropped by procar and AVESCO picked them up

Hrmmm, AVESCO picked them up and won't allow them to race? AVESCO really really dislike what is going on with the FTs, what would they do with them?

Negative? Hello!!!!! Let's just bury it. Super Touring has been dead in this country for years. Why keep flogging a dead horse?

It's not dead, just lame in all four legs and shrinking at a rapid rate into a shetland pony... maybe we could have the ASTC at a lap sprint meeting out at Morgan Park one day? The diehard fans would make the trip, and it would be far enough out of the way as not to annoy anyone

Dunno, but the short circuit has a grid capacity of about 6, so there should be no drama fitting everyone in
It's a shame it has died in the arse so badly, even last year there was enough interest to make a decent club level grid of cars, but has everyone officially given it the bird and put their cars out to pasture or into service as boat anchors? |

I would love to have enough money to buy one of these ST cars as I think they are the best built 4 door sedans ever. It would be nice to have one of the Diet Coke BM's in my garage just to look at. When they come down to $5,000, which will be soon, I will have to buy one.
I am with CRASH lets keep '02 Astc thread going till '07. |

The playboy car from last year being 96 vintage currently sits for sale ready to race. David Searle would love to hear from potential purchasers

I would like one of the Mazda Xedos 6 (Eunos 500) that was raced in the BTCC. Not the one Matt Neal rolled 6 times..

The cheapest ST I've seen is like a Class 2 '93 Nissan Sunny for 8K US. It needs work though. The ex-BTCC Xedos are now in the US, where it was raced last in '97. Last I checked, they were asking $50K for both of them. Even the Hyundais were asking $20K AUS? I wonder if the ST BMWs are ever going to be $5K? Perhaps in another 20-30 years? But by then, they may become classis and hover at the $20-30K mark?? What do you think?

2)Nordic Touring Car CHampionship. I think they're drawing something like 10-15 ST cars a race. Of course, they're generally the 95 and 96 cars. |

Thats all well and good if you live in the UK. Here in oz the series is dead and the cars are virtully worthless. For the money people are asking for them you could purchase a car from a number of different catagoiries that would give you a drive in a national championship. As drinkalot says, the best time to buy one will be when they are $5000, and that wont be too far away.

Well I guess you can race them with Sports Sedans, Club races and maybe convert them to Endurance Spec. There's a couple of endurance races in New Zealand and there's Bathurst 24hrs. But the price being asked for some of these cars (25,000-55,000 EURO) is still quite high:
http://www.racecarsdirect.com/cars/d...?id=4334&cat=0 http://www.racecarsdirect.com/cars/d...?id=3706&cat=0 http://www.racecarsdirect.com/cars/d...?id=4391&cat=0 If you have 50,000 EURO to spend of a car for Endurance racing, then why not get a second hand Porsche or maybe one of these: http://www.racecarsdirect.com/cars/d...?id=4514&cat=0 It must be a better deal that trying to convert a Supertourer. On the other hand, if someone offers a Supertourer for AUD $5000, it would have to be real dog. It will probably cost you 5 times that amount to get it race ready. Any Supertourer worth buying will probably never hit the AUD $5000 mark (maybe AUD $20,000?), just like any decent Group A car - although I'd probably prefer the Group A car myself.
