Arrive and Drive opportunities?

Im looking at the moment to do a few "arrive and drive" type races, I have been intouch with some of the formula vee people, but im also looking at what else is available... ff1600 etc. Sadly Silverstone have said as I did not do their 5 day course I can not take part in their series.

Budget wise Im looking at about 500-650 ish, can I get something for this amount?

If anyone can recommend something in the mean time, that would be great, I really want to do a few races this year before I decide what to do next year.

Many thanks

for that money Vee is the best bet - I'd suggest AHS

I have spoken to AHS, Im goign to see them in action at a race meeting soon. I know crashes are part of such series with 40 odd drivers on the track, so my concern now is accident damage, mechanical is covered, but accident is not. So im looking at my options... No doubt I want to get started asap.

I think for that money you can get both FF and Vee - Vee certainly. Accident damage costs will be a risk in all series unfortunately However, I think there are some sort of insurances you can take out too which may protect you to a point....not done it / had to look into it yet but maybe someone else here has. Next Vee meeting is at Pembrey but can't remember the date!

It's expensive and with high deductibles

Especially high for one race and a total novice, my guess would be £750 with a £1,000 deductible.

So you have to do £1,750 of damage for it to be worth while.

Never used it myself although my driver did for the 2000 season and probably broke even or insurers made a loss after a "big one".

Even when you're not a student and trying to race, you'll probably find you still don't have as much money as you want to race!!!

I struggle through whilst in uni somehow clawing together some cash to go racing or at least testing. I did a lot with Silverstone and compared to some I think they are fairly reasonable but only in your first year or two. There are better oppotunities in Vee I think.

Vee would be my choice if I was a student - if you are an engineering student you can also get in with one of the big teams and develop the car.

I hope this doesn't upset you Bella as I know you don't like me promoting my driver but I think that in this case it might be useful for the originator of this thread to see how another young student has found Formula Vee.

It's a video of the Championship round at Cadwell Park last weekend that this week's Autosport says (p.108) "was worth the admission money alone".

Warning: Contains on board footage of overtaking and a dramatic twist in the tail.

Just watched your video, i've been around Cadwell many times. The white car (Mr Buxton) drove completely wrong, defensive is slow it was quite clearly only a matter of a very short space of time before Martin overtook him. He then went on to completely dominate the race, a fine performance indeed.
