Always a good thread
Those who do think it’s the best and people who don’t buy that position
Been going on for nearly twenty years!
Have to agree, but if you’re confined to the UK then Goodwood is the best place to see some of the best cars. Limited to Pre 67 at the Revival, which limits appeal for many.

We are lucky to be well served with historic events so can all chose which suits us best!

It's different isn't it? The lack of fencing means the view is better than many locations and the close racing is always exciting. Can it compare to Monterey, Spa (I haven''t experienced Le Mans Classic) or Le Mans?

Well the picnic atmosphere at Goodwood is certainly a draw as long as the weather holds up, but ultimately watching cars through Eau Rouge with the aroma of waffles, sausages and frits wafting around certainly has a lasting appeal.

BTW, haven't been to Monterey either.

From a spectating point of view you would have to go a long way to beat Cadwell Park! Obviously there are severe restrictions on the racing grids because of the circuit constraints but nevertheless it's super viewing watching an HSCC meeting in summer.

Pity there is not a big historic meeting at Brands
Much more historic circuit than Goodwood and great viewing.

Neither of which are major historic meetings
We can dig up all the Master threads
Just like old days!
Your examples are similar to Spring meetings at Spa, Oldtimers that used to be good or CER outings
Not super historic outings

Maybe John means something bigger. One such as Doningtin Historic in scale and size perhaps?

The circuit used to in the Masters fest when that was 3 days.Indy on Sunday, GP on Saturday and Monday.

Brands did have the 3 day historic meet in 2016 for HSCC's 50th.

Big success as I think nearly 500 cars entered.

Both of which are sadly a shadow of their former self but nevertheless a wonderful opportunity for spectating and surprisingly always undersubscribed.

The major meetings are much bigger than Donington Festival
It’s to late to start one at Brands as UK has two with Sillystone and Goodwood
The major meetings are amalgamation of many series organisers not just one.
The only one that doesn’t fit that template is LMC which is all Peter Auto and Le Mans Club. That has to be careful that it picks entrants from all places rather than being attached to CER
It becomes a problem when ex Le Mans Cars are turned away and replicas accepted.

I enjoyed the Masters at Brands principally BECAUSE it wasn't a "festival".

It's well documented that I have no inclination to join in the fancy dress at Goodwood. Castle Combe has also jumped on the band wagon with that, it's not my cup of tea. But I don't decry the event for all that, many people do like it and each to their own.

The racing is good though, is it being streamed this year?

Well I'm off to the Revival for the first time on Saturday - no idea really what to expect but I'm sure it'll be interesting. I'll walk the whole circuit during the day - I can't remember what the corner is called at the far end of the circuit - but it's a hoot in the rally car so I'm sure there will be plenty of 'sideways' there during the day.

Going back to a point JR made, I think it's actually been raced on for more years as the revived circuit than it was in its original guise.

In reality I don't see much difference between Thruxton and Goodwood other than the daffodils. Both very quick circuits. I think Thruxton was, at one time, the fastest track in the UK but that was in the 70s.

Going back to whether the racing live stream will be free to view, their YouTube channel is ready and waiting, but no idea if a GRRC subscription of some sort will be required...

You will have a great day. Seduced by the entry ( eight 250GT SWBs plus a GTO) and the weather forecast, my resolve was broken and I just bought a ticket for Friday.

We are there on our usual Friday.
No dressing up, no 'over the road' or any infield 'attractions' just there for the cars. The evening race is usually a cracker.

Yes the Kinrara entry is stunning. Shame the GTO is a replica . Hope it does better than last year with its startline incident with a famous E Type if I recall.

Shame no LM's or the like in the TT now.

Busy month ahead in historics. Just looked at the calendar .

Bert, ignore all the razzamatazz stuff, you can get easily waylaid on your way round. There are restrictions on close up viewing in the main paddock unless you have a separate (and expensive) paddock pass which incidentally is the same at the Le Mans classic.
The massive attendance means a long hike from the car parking areas which are all clearly defined outside the circuit in adjoining fields and although there are tractor trailers running all day, it's very difficult to clamber aboard one particularly with a haversack and a seat as they always seemed to be full! In fact the car parks alone are astonishing with the wealth of machinery driven to the circuit, you could wander around all day just drooling at some of the road cars. There are big gaps between races which can give the opportunity for other activities but as with other big events the bulk of the crowd gather around the start/finish and along from Woodcote through to Madgwick so if you try to move around it's quite difficult. If you want to see the racing try anywhere from the exit of Madgwick through to St Marys, my favourite spectating point is at No Name, the kink before St Marys where the brave and talented can be seen at their best on track. I've been every year except one when I was laid up but then I'm biaised since it's only 15 minutes away! Oh and take all you want to eat and drink unless you're feeling flush!

I want to go and have a look at the vintage aircraft (I'm quite an avgeek) so that's one diversion I'll definitely take. I'm not sure how much of the other off track stuff is worth a look? I guess some of that continues after racing has finished for the day anyway as the site is open quite late.

Thanks - that's useful, I won't try that then! Is it all race paddocks that are off limits or only some of them?

I'm up for a walk so that's no issue - they used the revival car parks for the Battle Of Britain flypast thing a few years back and they were mud baths but I guess that shouldn't be an issue this year with the better weather we've had recently. Walking the circuit should be warmer than last time I did it - it barely got above freezing all day and the sleet/rain never stopped!

The big gaps are useful for re-positioning - as you say the 'non-race' crowds don't tend to move far so with a small bit of leg work a quieter spot should be easily found (St Marys and Lavant are currently my preferred options but I may re-assess based on what's in shot in the background).

Lucky man! This is the first time I'll have been to the revival (and only then courtesy of a gifted ticket). I'll be taking my own supplies of food/drink - I don't want to have to re-mortgage the house for a cup of tea
