Dale Earnhardt Sr.

It finally hit me the other day, like him or lump him, NASCAR just doesn't seem the same without Dale Earnhardt Sr. Yeah, I know, we were without him all last year but it seemed his spirt was still there due to that #3 tribute on lap 3.

I agree!Personally I didn't care for His method of driving(putting the bumper on some1)driving & doubt if He wud've got 7 Cups today under NASCAR's watchful eye scrutinizing use of the bumpers, but He was such an icon of NASCAR & He will be missed 4 infinity,IMO!RCR's gonna have to use that #3 pretty soon or They'll lose possession of it,a lot of fans wud like to see that No.retired, but I don't see that happening as it wud open the door as far as retiring Richard Petty;Bobby Allison;Junior Johnson;Michael Waltrip & etc.,IMO!

I have to agree with you Joe Fan.
Losing Dale Earnhardt left a void in the racing,
Dale was always the "unknown" quality,
When your favorite was leading you thought "Where's Earnhardt ?"
When someone hit the wall you thought "Where was Earnhardt ?"
Dale Earnhardt was famous for his "bumping" and his menacing smile.
Dale was awesome and had to be respected for his fierce driving style.
Nascar seems determined to make all the drivers "Walk the Line" and there is no individuality allowed. Dale showed the spirit of racing and racing aggressively was what he did best.
Nascar has lost Dale Earnhardt and with him went the aggressive bump and run racing spirit.
We won't forget Dale and we will fondly remember his driving style. We will smile to ourselves at some of Dale's actions and think about how much we miss him.
Dale Earnhardt left a void that may never be filled.

When I 1st started watching Nascar & going to races, Dale was the one I didn't want to see win when I was there & I dreaded seeing him win the race on the tube. Of course now it's Gordon. Last year I was thinking to myself, "Man, I wish I would have been to at least one race that Dale won. Almost saw it too, the week before he died when Tony Stewart just barely beat him to the line at the Bud Shootout. At least I can say I been at two races so far that Gordon has won.

I'm not sold on the retiring number thing. Which number of Dale's do you retire? Everyone will say the #3, but he won ROTY & his 1st championship for Mike Curb in the #2. Of course he drove the #15 for Bud Moore too for a cpl of years...only won a cpl of races in the Ford Thunderbird for Bud though.

24T...not sure anybody would want to retire Mikie's # just yet. Maybe Darrel's, but which one? 11 or 17? Both numbers are in use right now. BTW...I know that's who ya meant...lol.

They didnt call him "The Intimidator" for nothing! He was a great driver that wasnt afraid to be agressive, yet he was still patient, which is very important in NASCAR.

I felt they should have retired the 7 and the 28 in 1993 at the time but I now feel that NO number should be retired, keep the 3, just don't make it a solid black car.

Well you all know my addiction to DE. He was my dude- & I TOTALLY admired his chrome fender. Nobody could use it as effectively!

I still miss him. It took me a long time just to come up with new fav's to root for. Nope- racing will never be the same.

Very early in his career Dale did use the # 8.
The #8 was actually used in Grand National Racing (what we now know as Winston Cup) by Dale's dad Ralph.
The #8 is associated more with Ralph than with Dale.
Dale Jr brought the #8 to the forefront when he joined Winston Cup.
The #8 was also used over the years by other drivers too.
(Remember Hut Stricklin in the Circuit City #8 a few years ago ?)
NO number should be retired, IMO.

Gotta agree Joe!

I just saw the Dale Jr MTV Cribs piece, now I know what I'm missing!

The races havn't been the same without the black #3 making its way up through the field, the yardstick for every race is now gone!

I'm not in favor of retiring the #3 either.A friend of mine came up with what I think is the perfect solution. When Kerry Earnhardt comes into Cup let him drive the no.3!

I understand that he will drive the number 83 when he comes up.The 8 of his grandfather combined with the 3 of his father. But who wouldn't love to see Kerry driving the number 3? I just can't see anyone but an Earnhardt in that car.

Yeah- pretty funny, BB.

Things are going better. She is home now & recovering. The big scare is over. (for now) I am sure she will throw another one at us though---->> It's been her LUCK for the last year. We are setting a new goal of "6 months Hospital free" LOL. Gotta start somewhere right?

As to the number 3, Dale Earnhardt made it famous but he only owned the "stylized" version, not the actual number, technically the numbers belong to Nascar, I think the number 3 should be used and there are only 2 Earnhardts racing and I doubt if either one would want to be "over-shadowed" by their father's number, it is time to put the number 3 on another car, a "young gun" would be the best way to go, maybe a rookie that comes in next year, let him start the next chapter for the number 3. I liked Dale Earnhardt a lot but I really feel that the number 3 should be used, I would however prefer that the car NOT be black, it should be any color but black. JMO

Other than Fireball Roberts, Dale is the only driver I've ever pulled for. I still enjoy racin, but only go to qualifying now. The races just aren't the same without him. I'm not in favor of retiring the number 3 and I'm not opposed to someone driving a Black 3. But whoever tries either or both will be under a tremendous amount of pressure to perform.

I watch ASA and Hooters Pro cup a lot and both have the number 3 on cars there. And the drivers love it.Also I can't help but pull for them no matter who they are, unless one did something really crappy LOL .So far none have. It's just great to see that number three any where you look.Well with the possible exception of the goat!
