Skaife OUT at RACE

Skaife stepping down from RACE to remove broadcast conflict of interest
https://www.v8sleuth.com.au/skaife-t...s-race-boards/

Shame it's not the other way round - stay on the board and step away from the broadcast.

Gosh that's a serious development!

Is he potentially more easily removeable from broadcasting now though?

Driving ability is irrelevant to the jobs he’s doing now.
Whether is the financial implosion of HRT under his watch, his design of what he said would be a cheaper Gen 2,his recommendation to RACE that they should sign off on a 12 round season or his cliched and unfunny inside bloke commentary his record outside the cockpit is not good.

I dealt with him first-hand at race meetings, I don't need to read HIS book to know what he is like. I still remember one funny comment Schenken made over the radio about him. I learnt then that I am not the only one that feels like that.

All I will say is, that a bloke who needs his own private toilet and won't use a public toilet like the rest of the field is 'special'

Well more educated than any of us here. both on track and on the microphone.
However if any of you are Blue folk I guess thats where you comments lie.

Im red through and through but love Larkos comments.

Would rather a Skaife or another driver over someone inexperienced TBF

nothing to do with being 'Blue' or 'Red', but after dealing with him over a few years, well, let's just finish this by saying 'if you have nothing nice to say, then say nothing'

Well you buggered that up then, we're not racing for sheepstations here!

Was good flow though up until that point.

Not specific to Skaife, more to the RACE business model/number of rounds:
Having circuits/State Government tourism dollars competing for (Supercar) rounds was a feature of the Cochrane era business model.

In my 55 years of following Australian touring car racing I have had zero interest or involvement in the Red v Blue thing.
Bias is not my complaint about Skaife the administrator and commentator.Incompetence, conflict of interest and ego is.

It was interesting how many times Russell Ingall called out Mark's BS and opinions and was right more time than not. Then in the Enforcer & the Dude, Russell had good knowledge in some areas, but very little outside of the on track driving part of the game. Morris had a far wider knowledge of the sport as a whole. Some driver will know everything about the car, the engineering and mechanics of the car. Others can know nothing or next to nothing about that side of the business and still run front row. Just because some shoe can win a few championship, with the help of a lot of very smart people in the background. This doesn't make the shoe an expert on the whole business.

We always seem to get drivers in the commentary box. There are way smarter and more interesting people who could give comments and enlighten us more than the people who do the easy stuff, driving to car. Driver are over rated and many are a waste of space once they exit the trolley.

We always think the lead singer is the talent of the band. The guy who writes the songs is the real star.

Except that the same things people level at Skaife like being parochial and repetitive are 1000% times worse with Larko, and he IS 100% biased.

Best in small doses.

Larkham admits his bias and plays it for comedy. His technical insights are pretty much always informative and that’s his role.
I have no issue with bias in Skaife’s commentary. It is the continual cliches and the boring dated attempts at humour alongside the smug ego that is the problem.

Successful racing drivers often seem selfish and egotistical.

You also literally described Larko precisely with cliches and attempts at humour. These guys are similar ages and raced each other in many categories. You can't complain about one but give the other one a pass.

The two Marks are in different rolls. One doesn't commentate the races. And one doesn't jump the gun to often engage his mouth before thinking through what has just happened, before making a stupid statement. Which Russell used to pick him up on often, which probably sealed his fate. One doesn't bag the current champion live on TV, and tell everyone at home how he has put other drivers in their place.

Many drives are egotistical, even the ones who have won nothing. The little rich kids who has never been told no. They don't get much better when they get older. These days they spend most of their day checking their phones to see if they are still famous. And these good drives win with good teams behind them, if not they win nothing! Some drivers would do well to remember that. HRT.

Larko painfully “sings from the hymn sheet” most of the time but in the races is great for his simple explanations and getting a point across

His Ford bias is generally just quick jibes rather than pushing a barrow that is pretty much irrelevant now anyway.
