Model Kumho BMW

Thought you might like to see the model M3 that I made for Andy Allen of his 2002 championship-winning car. The 1/18 base model was supplied by Andy.

Hope I can add the picture properly !

Not so much these days, as I've taken a more PR role this year. in 2001 and 2002 I made a 1/43 model of every single car in the British GT series. This year I've done 12 cars in the Britcar series. I mainly just do commissions now.

That is really nice. The decals would obviously be custom. How do you do them?

The "Life" logoes were scanned from a real-size sticker provided by Andy. Everything else was either pasted from the companies websites, or self-made using correct fonts.

The whole lot was then grouped together, and printed on 2 A4 sheets of Avery Full-Page Label Inkjet paper. It's actually a little bit too thick, but doesn't look too bad.

Probably hundreds of pounds, Smokey, since I don't know of a base model in 1/18 that I can work from. Fly do a good slot car in 1/32, better than I could do, for around £40 I think.

Steve.
I am looking to create my own decals and need some advice on how to get started.
What software package are you using for instance, scanner? is it easy to copy existing decals, logos etc to create the new ones. In other words I need a lot of help, as I am not too sure where to start.

Glyn, scroll up the screen a bit, and you'll see how I did the decals. No special software, and I must admit, my student son did most of the clever stuff.

Download logoes, etc, from websites, scan pictures and photographs, but most of all, pick subjects where you can talk to the car owner, tell them what you're doing, and they'll probably give you all the material you need.

Steve have you ever tried printing onto decal film.
I have heard people mention this before, but not had a go myself or seen any decals that someone has produced?

Steve.
Thanks for the info, I will now go away and try to do a few things on my PC.
egor.
I have heard good things about the decal films, there are two types to try, one that can be lacquered for acetate paints, the other for the other type of aerosol spray (which I cannot remember at the moment).
Available from shops such as Grand Prix Models in St Albans.
