Plato burnt just before championship deciding race! (Merged)
I suspect it's just the usual overplayed hype but it's reported that Jason Plato was injured during filming and may or may not be on the grid at Thruxton.

It's from a SEAT press release so I expect it's more than the usual TOCA hype.
Don't know what's more scary - having a car burst into flames at 150mph or getting a lift from Phil Bennett? |

from the press release "The 39-year-old is now recovering back home in Oxford and insists he will race at Thruxton " pretty much answers it. To be honest with the title up for grabs, he would have to be pretty bad not to try.

Plato burnt
Just read on BTCC forum Jason Plato was burnt while testing a car for C5's Fith gear. He says he's going to be at Thruxton. Hope his injuries don't slow him up or the final round will not be as good.
Hope he gets well soon and is not suffering to much. |

get well soon jason,
but i don`t think a few burns will dampen his will power and determination to grab the title for a 2nd time |

Having sat along side PHIL I bet JASON was glad to get to the hospital using a sat nav I am told. Get well you young whipper snapper, SYD.

From Google..... http://images.google.co.uk/images?so...en&q=Caparo+T1
Not the prettiest of beasts, powered by a petrol drinking de-tuned ( to only 575 bhp) Indycar motor. |

Thanks ScotsBrutesFan, have seen the car.
What I should have asked for is if anyone had seen pics of the car in question once touched. Off topic Have to say the Caparo T1 looks very similar to the Hulme Supercar http://images.google.co.uk/images?sv...=Search+Images Last edited by NAC; 10 Oct 2007 at 00:21. |

Having just seen Jason on the local ITV news I can confidently say that it's not hype, he is really quite badly burned!

There's a couple of fuzzy pictures on the Fifth Gear website
After the big fuss over Richard Hammond's accident and questions over the BBC taking adequate safety precautions I find elements of this story amazing. Seemingly no ambulance or medical cover - they had to rely on Phil Bennett's SatNav to locate the nearest hospital. What if it had been a more serious crash that needed on-site emergency action. Also I understand he wasn't wearing fireproof overalls. Last edited by redshoes; 11 Oct 2007 at 21:28. Reason: fixed link |

after seeing today on TV the burns to Plato's face, back of neck, and hands, I wonder how that could have happened if he was wearing a full-face helmet, balaclava, suit and gloves .......... hmm, discuss?
p.s. shame he didn't will the BTCC after all that, wasn't it? |

With that much burns on the back of his neck I'm surprised he didn't lose a lot of hair as well. Seems a bit of a design fault for a road car, the air intake is immediately above the driver's head, F1 style, so any engine fire and the driver's head is toast. |
