Wow.

Is the sky falling yet? We did get a big dump of rain here this morning. Perhaps a sign from above?

The real and obvious risk is a potential reduction in support for individual teams currently running Holden product.

Holden Motorsport, and a friendly dealer network, seem to source/supply components, drive cars, promotional opportunities, media/marketing for those teams not currently an official works supported squad.

What happens if Holden has had a change in strategy, deciding that it only takes one factory team to win, and that there will be no further ongoing support of customer or private entries?

It might force teams from Commodores... but where might they go?

The only current turn-key car supplier (unless you are looking to buy used..) is 888... which is Holden...

Spot on, Auto Action ask similar startling questions in that article, and it sounds as though their source may be asking those exact questions...

That seems to be exactly what is happening, Holden have handed responsibility of all things Supercar to 888 and are basically wiping their hands of it.
It will leave many teams in a precarious position.
Will 2018 be the 888 Supercars championship with 3 entries ?

Just massive budget cuts in the wake of the manufacturing shutdown, obviously.

Bad news for LDM, BJR, GRM I guess even...

Add Walkinshaw and Erebus to that list as well.

Speedcafe just repeating the rumour, no confirmation from Holden yet.

But I guess in this instance silence is a confirmation.

One wonders if Simon Mc might pop up somewhere else...

I wonder what becomes of the contract Mr Dane signed, to become the factory Holden squad?

Will it be honored for it's full duration?

Extraordinary timing after yesterday's launch. Long term can the series survive in it's current guise without any manufacturer support ?

Some rules will need to be re-written, should there be the case of manufacturers completely their noses at the sport.

Weren't Holden, Mazda, BMW and Nissan all involved around that time? Ford too, albeit from a distance.

Umai Naa's post pretty much covers it. Add Toyota as well.

All those manufacturers supported the sport in different ways but the support was there.

By your definition Erebus was a manufacture supported team in 2016, as was prodrive and we know thats not true.

Dealer support is different to manufacturer support
