Toyotats03OUS should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
https://sportscar365.com/lemans/wec/...-le-mans-pole/

Interesting article.

Ferrari strategy was to be behind the toyota to benefit from the cars tow ( which according to Ferrari, paid off

The toyota were not able to mount an attack because they could not refuel or put new tires due to the hyperpole rules and the red flag.

That might have helped a bit, but it doesn't explain the gap.
The session did play out well for Ferrari because of those reasons, but I think they would be on pole whatever.

Now the race could be a different matter...

Hold on to your hats it table update time. Let's start with Prediction Comp so farso

What this looks like after Thursday. Are you looking pretty in the predictions competition?

Hyperpole ACTUAL RESULT
3:22.982 Ferrari #50

Top Speed ACTUAL RESULT
343.4 kph Ferrari #50

Podium (based on hyper)
1. Ferrari #50 - NA laps
2. Ferrari #51
3. Toyota #8

GTE winner (based on hyper)
Corvette #33 (who else other than Keating was it going to be!)

For my predictions I was spot on top speed. I was too slow for pole time. And for the speed and the pole it was the wrong blummin' Ferrari.

Many many points still up for grab.

would like to see the #33 corvette / Ben Keating win but its a long race. I don't give give the Cadillacs much of a chance unless the Toyota and Porsche break

I'm going to have a moan here. The timing data changed Gustav DAHLMANN BIRCH to Gustav BIRCH on Thursday, so briefly it looked like there were 187 drivers! Maintain your data people! There is no wonder BoP is such a shambles

FWIW Gustav BIRCH was faster than Gustav DAHLMANN BIRCH!

Most of these drivers will do many more laps than this in the race. Wow.

I'd like it too. Although there are many cars I'd like to do it (in all classes). I'm supporting the Irons too.

I think that is it isn't it? No other classes? Oh yes there is one. I did that in the NASCAR returns thread.

So many documents but no answers... was trying to see if there was anything more on the white line in front of pitwall... Meyrick got the blame and a three grid space drop

164 Vanwall3:29.7453:32.4253:34.1633:36.017104

Ranked by Top 40. Look at the Ferrari and Toyota. BOPOMG!

(BTW not sure Top 60 is a good comparison, many cars didn't get 60 representative laps in)

Note: you see the same effect as in LMP2 - the quick laps in Q are much quicker than practice.

We have a top 2. Toyota and Ferrari.

Porsche, Caddy, and some sneaky Peugeot laps, make up the next group and are all close.

Glickenhaus isn't a million miles from the bottom of that group. A strong reliable run and they are still on for a good result. They seem to be benefitting from just getting more running.

Vanwall. Hasn't got that many fast laps in. Hmmmm.

For the comparison charts I've compared those three groups (Top 40 average).

For the first group I've put all 4 cars in it. It demonstrates what is going on in the table. Ferrari owned qualifying. Toyota have put more race pace fast laps in so far.

Second group I chose the fastest of each in the Top 40 and added the fastest in hyperpole if different. Again a pretty close group (not as close as Toyota and Ferrari, but close).

Last group are the small manufacturers / non-hybrids. Glickenhaus is faster than Vanwall. And they haven't done as many fast laps as the others - the drop off is quicker - less consistent?

In some of the team threads I have posted some driver comparisons. I am not saw how useful these are. There isn't that much data for each driver. It could potentially be improved by removing Q, but even then there aren't many laps and it is effected by the when people were running.

The race ones end up bein ga bit better. Of course the range of conditions can still cause problems, but you get a lot more laps that a Top 20 tends to be a nice comparison.

Also I split out the LMP2 and GTE practice rankings as an excuse to start dedicated threads on these classes. And to add to the excitement they have polls!

Mainly, penalties in time are given live. Sometimes, driver and/or team must go to the RC and explain…… Sorry, they have to go and listen. And better keep their mouth shut. Really few possibilities to appeal against any decision. Often written in the rules…

Once again thank you for the thorough comparison!! You spared us a whole lotta time!

Yes, that is what I also saw regarding average laptimes. Toyota is ahead, albeit by not too much.

Pitstops will be a very important factor. Who makes mistakes and so on.

Reliability? Possible driver errors? Weather? It would be very interesting.

We do not know how Ferrari would cope with wet conditions. At Spa they were not too convincing. I still feel the First 8 hours will be the deciding factor...who can stay alive in the rain??

They have to cope with the regulations regarding tires and suspension settings. As to communication, it seems that someone belonging to a Porsche team was not too happy with some on-board images. Video deleted from YT… What was obvious is that the 963 is demanding for its driver in the straight at least, suspension travel seems limited to says the least. And they are about to launch the new road going hypercar:https://fr.motor1.com/news/662117/po...ipiration-963/
Stiff as they are today, it will be quite a challenge to keep a 963 on a wet road. Unless they can do something remotely…

How does the aero work on these hypercars? I know the aero platform is set by regulation, but is there then an adjustment they can do for setup, so is there a low med and high wing setting they can adjust or is it totally homologated and unadjustable like a 90s supertourer?

Skipping through those regulations it would seem that only one aero adjustment is permitted either to the rear wing or other body part, surely a number of competitors have different complete front bodywork which incorporates variations in aero with winglets, etc? If this is the case in makes nonsense of the regulation that only one bodywork configuration can be homologated?

Safety cars and I go further, red flag is also the possibility. The amount of rain predicted is pretty big.

Ive seen some nonsense in my time but the end of the Le Mans Cup race is up there.

Team WRT 46 driven by Rossi and 31 running 2nd and 3rd in the GT Class 8 seconds back from the leading #51 Ferrari and all of a sudden on the last lap the #51 Ferrari gets a drive through penalty for "Erratic driving" (Err.... Hes not battling anyone?). Guess who wins? Guess what the headline story is all over the Le Mans socials.....

Was it not there another issue with the Ferrari like a pit stop issue? That car went from nowhere to 2nd overall after pit stops with timed stops
