a bit cynical on my part, but i cant seem to find any explanation as to why Liberty waited a week between making their announcement of the grid girl drop and this weeks replacement plan.

surely they had a replacement plan in place and without a doubt much of the 'controversy' surrounding 'the drop' would have been close to non existent if it was immediately known that kids would be the replacement.

was it just an oversight on their part (not very PR savvy) or was it calculated attempt to bolster the sport's profile?

smells of classic BE though...take a small issue and turn it into a major talking point.

It is debatable whether the once decent people have lost some of their polish given their new hats and priorities.

But as you say first they have to define the root cause before they can come up with solutions to suit all.

4000 reads of this thread (and one more now) - so grid girls are 8 times more important than news of Dan Gurney's death are they ? For God's sake , who cares so much about the fact that a few under dressed young women won't ponce around on the grid any more ?

Well it looks like the Aus GP organisers have taken a different approach. We know Ricciardo was still keen to have Grid Girls - I guess he'll be partly happy because Red Bull have aligned with an alternative and this year we have 'Glamour on the Grid':

'I will be attending the four race days and also the launch party, Glamour on the Grid. I will be hosting that event, welcoming international guests to the track, showing people around and making sure everyone is having a good time!'

to be honest i cant say i have a problem with this.

from the link, she sounds like she has her own business/health services/lifestyle products that she is promoting so i see this as an entrepreneur advertising their skill set, promoting their brand via F1.

very different then a collection of sign/placard holders imo.

anyways, one positive about the Halo is that the general consensus of hate around it has diffused the outrage surrounding the grid girl controversy.
