RF92 Front Upright Wheel Bearing Replacement
Chaps,
Hopefully this thread won't cause the controversy of my last post! I need to change the front wheel bearings on an RF92 and I am stumped by the assembly. I have gottent the hub out of the upright and am just left with the upright with bearing and an aluminium sleeve which I can only assume is threaded on the OD to pull down on the back of the bearing and keep it in place. The sleve is wafer thin and has 4 slots which I guess are for persueding it undone. The slots have seen a hard life, whacked with a screwdriver no doubt, and I am having no luck getting the sleeve undone. Do others out there have the same problem? I am going to make up a crucifix shaped tool that locates into each of the 4 slots but I am not expecting this to help me get the old sleeve out. Is this sleeve a throw away item that needs to be replaced with the bearing? I know it adds weight but I see no other reason why the sleeve could not be of a thicker section to aid fitting and removal. Thanks, Jon |

Hi.
If the sleeve is installed and removed with a proper tool, such as the one you are planning to make, it will last for ever. If the one you have is trashed, buy a new one and you should have no more problems. |
