Hillclimb Cars and Drivers next year

Following ss_collins' comment in another thread, I thought I would beat him to it and start a thread on the British Hillclimb silly season for 2005.

So this is what appears to be going on from various reports in the top class.

The Fleetwood Gould GR55 might be for sale, but I imagine they will be out next year. Todd in the Gould???

Roger and Scott Moran will remain with thier Pilbeam MP88.

Martin Groves had his Gould GR37 up for sale not that long ago, but unsure as to his plans.

Willem Toet, I would think, will be out in his Pilbeam MP88.

Mike Dean also had his car up for sale a while ago, and again unsure of his plans.

The Wights will be out with thier new car.

I would think that Paul Haimes will be sharing with Allan Warburton in the Dallara next year.

Will Rob Turnbull be out with the new Ford HB engined Gould GR55 next year? I also see that Simon Durling was out in Rob's V6 version at Prescott. Potential change??

Deryk Young has bought GWJ's Gould GR51 and is apparently putting his Methonal fuelled JUDD V8 into it.

I am told that Chris Merrick has sold his Pilbeam MP88 but not sure who too. I wonder what he is looking to buy?

Hopefully we will see Mark Budgett and Tim/Will Mason in the new Gould GR59.

Also, can't wait for Mr Hillclimbing, Roy Lane, to return next year in his Gould GR55.

OK. That's my lot. Can't think of anymore at the moment.

What do you know?

Chris merrick sold his MP72 James.....
It was bought by the Tomlin family who are entered for this weekends Prescott in an MP72B.
I would expect Rob Turnbull to use the new car straight away and he is also entered this weekend in the GR55..
I too cannot wait to see the GR59....

All rather exciting and great for the sport. It looks like 7 new car/driver combinations in total. How long will it take for the new drivers to get used to their cars?? Although most of them have already experienced BIG power before, so the season should get into its swing pretty quickly. Can't wait!! Excited already!

Hello boys & girls. Thank you to Mr James for tarting this thread! We finally got back from Doune. Those old buffers just have no sense of direction and all of the cars kept throwing chains and it is so difficult to avoid dual carriageways and those new fangled motorways. Just because one of them used to know the fastest way up Shelsley a VERY long while ago and another one did go to Brooklands as a boy doesn't mean that they can navigate. Just like nice Mr James Williams, the old buffers want to remind you that the season is not yet over and while Mr Robin is entered for Prescott in the new Gould, young Adam is also pencilled in to dual drive that car so the sparks may literally fly! A more mouthwatering prospect than my biscuits and treats! At the end of season party somebody was saying that nice Mr Fleetwood says if they don't sell the blue Gould they will be back next season, but the butler says that it is more interesting and significant that he said nothing about what they will do if they DO sell the car! Keep looking at other threads including one from the lovely photographer man showing those super pictures of Juniors new car, but then you will all have been there first won't all of you naughty boys and girls! I hope to be back later on the hillclimb this weekend thread to tell you more about how wet it was at Doune! Love, Abigail

All the cars at the top of Doune

GWJ wasn't up there this time.

Warming his feet in his 'racing home', whilst we hikers got drenched

Heard these following rumours, can anyone confirm (or deny) these?

The Martin Groves/Paul Ranson GR37 has gone to Kelvin Jouhar.

Kelvin's MP62 has gone to Richard and Amanda George.

Simon Durling has sold his GR37 as a roller to A.Crawford.

Mr Durling himself has bought Rob Turnbull's GR55 V6 to put his NME V8 into...

Simon buying Robs "old" 55 would fit in with the fact that he had a guest drive at Prescott begining of September and I suppose sticking his v8 in it would make it the same as Rob's new car..

I hear that converting the V6 GR55 to a V8 GR55 involves lots of hacksawing, autoclaving and money.

The riding mechanic says that the trail has gone a bit cold on the bike engined Goulds. He could not get anything out of Mr David or Mr Sean so enquiries were made of Richard at TTS. He says that they have not heard from Gould or their customers for a long time. So we will all have to be very patient. Love Abigail

I would be surprised if simon kept the v6 engine as junior and Rob have proved that it isnt really as competitive as a v8...
They dont seem to bad in wet or damp conditions but when the track is dry the extra powewr and torque of the v8 shines through..

Well, I don't have any firm facts on the matter, this is pure speculation. But Chris has in the past tended to buy cars with a proven track record. Now are there any cars for sale like that I wonder?

Well if his Plod paypacket will stretch to it he could always consider buying the Fleetwood Gould.
Certainly no doubt that it has a proven track record in the right hands.

The Merrick car was an MP72 BTW. The ex Roger Moran 97 Championship winner.

Aaahhhh yes you are more than likely right Woolley....

Was there really a rumour that a Chief Marshal was seen with a broom in his hand??.... I bet what really happened is that he was being helpful and passing it to another marshal...
