Tony Harman should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
BARC Classics - Thruxton kickoff

Well here we go again. Club championship just around the corner.
Since we ran threads for all the Classic package meetings last year thought I might as well kick it off again.
Thruxton - 24th March - Round 1 BARC Classic Package.
All the usual suspects; Classic Clubmans (of course), all them guys in their nice dry warm tin tops, FF2000, grunty Porsche's, tail slapping Healeys High winds, freezing temperatures, horizontal rain, getting blown sideways on the entry to Church.... can't wait !
So who's going ??? Any Marshal's posts you'd like me to "drop in" on whilst I'm around (and around, and around...)

er Jos, does that mean you haven't got one yet ? Because MST are taking at least 3 weeks to deliver them !
Also if you're not aware (and the BARC haven't published this) but all transponders are supposed to be fitted in the same location on all cars within a race....

The BARC have said that those fitting instructions are wrong. The finish of the race is still determined by a light beam, and not the transponders, so it doesn't matter where you mount them, but towards the front would be a good start

Basically, you need to mount the transponder (so I've been told) pointing stright down and it must have an unobstructed view of the track. So the engine bay of most saloons is ideal.

3 weeks you say? Err. I'd better get my arse in gear then

I have my timer but not the serial no for entry forms

Have I time to go to work ?

The BARC said it to Jim Baynam (of the MGOC) who said it to me, and I posted it. Something may have been lost in the translation though, but I think it's mostly right

The BRSCC are sitting on the fence on this one. The first I heard was that "all" the BRSCC championships were going to use them (probably came from MST rather than the BRSCC), now I hear that "some" of the championships are going to be using them - probably just the higher profile series for the first year, then all of them in 2003.

I should add that Dave Wells at the BARC is the man to speak to, regarding transponders.

Chris,

Its Dale Wells.

Just got back in to the country and I find an e mail from MST saying I've got to re apply because their form is wrong. Hopefully I'll get it back in time otherwise that's Thruxton off the menu.

Hi Pete, Nice to hear you're back. Look forward to seeing you at Thruxton.
From what I've heard, with such a long delivery time, and changes in the form such as you have come across confusion over the mounting position etc. MST are going to be hard pushed to insist you only get a time with a correctly installed transponder. I get the feeling theree are going to be a number of people without them.

See you on the black stuff (Just over the transponder loops maybe...)

Tony - do you get the garages?? Might be seeking shelter!!

Transponder saga is getting embarrassing for all involved... probably need them for speed events before you know it.

Hi Tony,

Actually, I thought I'd talk to them and the BARC about it. I've still got to get my licence. Medical set for 16th March (only date I could get with my doctor). Nothing like cutting things fine is there?

Ooh - have to check with the paddock "babes" to see if we can allow you access to the garage.... y'know what these marketing people are like Don't even know if we're getting them this year - BARC said that they would consider our request......

If it's timed by MST there's a damn good chance that might happen.

Mine arrived today apparently, but I'm away on business so it's another job for the weekend!

Well,

24 hours after sending off the form my MST transponder has arrived. I'll ship it off to Ken Clarke and he can install it. Now all I need is a licence.

Blimey Pete - that was quick!, guess it must have been a case of no available stock when the orders first started rolling in.
Still in the Capri I guess ?, same colours ?
BTW - how do you get the little footer on your messages ?

It's the Capri but dramatically different and different colurs. See the website.

The footer is in fact a signature and if you go to your profile you can add something.

I'll be crewing a Rescue Unit and would rather not have to 'drop in' on anybody!

Seriously though, I'll be around the assembly area before the action starts and in the Goodwood restaurant during church break eating a Bacon roll!
