The Hillman Imp V8 raced here in Australia was built and driven by Harry Lefoe in the Sport Sedan series around 1973 to 1978. It was fitted with a full house Ford Cobra motor.

Thanks for that, I seem to remember him being Sydney based. What possesses someone to pull the elegant little coventry climax fire engine pump engine out and replace it with a Cobra is beyond my comprehension. Certainly was a crowd pleaser - thought it appeared on the scene earlier though..

Thanks Bomm

From what I remember Harry Lefoe was an earthmoving contractor around Albury-Wodonga area.

A few more Imps ran rotary's and Rob Webster in Melbourne ran 1 with a type 4 vw motor out of a kombi.

Harry Lefoe

Thanks heaps Bomn, Oran park 1971, I was probably there (Robin Orlando was the family favourite) What a a great shot! Opposite lock sliding looks like a lot of fun, wish we could see the grin on Harry's face

Cocking its front wheel just like an escort! Would love to have seen an Imp/Mini race ...Suppose you had good fields in the UK as both marques were reasonably popular at the time. What sort of mods were allowed? Would the Imp be on twin SUs or a Weber? Limited engine mods to a formula, I suppose?
