Tony C should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
2022 RSC Silly Season (WITH POLL)

So 888 has thrown a cat among the pigeons with Jay Dub stepping away from driving, so who could be a suitable replacement?
I dont think that any of the current drivers in the main game would fit the 888 mold, so maybe Thomas Randle or James Golding. Both are young, talented and articulate. Are there any better ones floating in the shadows that have the right attributes?

888 have never gone with an unproven rookie driver.

Which established drivers under 30 are out of contract at years end?

This is what I thought, Randle is good but jesus I don't rate Golding at all.

This will only be the fourth full time driver at 888 since 2006, which is remarkable.

What had SVG and JW done before they joined 888? They both had a lot of potential and got to show it in the best machinery at T8.

T8 likes winners (or potential winners) they dont go for drivers that have been plodding around out the back.

SVG had won multiple events for Stone Brothers, came close to winning Bathurst in 2014 with Tekno and finished second in the championship in the same year. JW had finished on the podium at both Sandown and Bathurst in 2005 in a low budget Tasman Motorsport car.

Unproven as in no main game experience / little seat time.

JW had 2 full seasons and 4 enduros under his belt prior. SVG 9 seasons. Certainly not rookies.

Like to see Todd Hazelwood in the seat.

Bet their are rich daddies out there, working the phones and kissing bank managers bottoms to get little Johnny a 888 drive.

It will be the best off contract driver in the field.
Roughie.McLaughlin bombs out in IndyCar and returns for 888.

Nah, in that scenario Jamie will hire his mate Wilbur and ScoMc will got back to DJR. Or Wilbur "retires"

David Thexton out of contract?

Andre Heimgartner or Will Brown could be a possibility.

JW was a surprise selection at that time. The jury was still very much out.

Jason Richards was the dominant partner and attracted most of the attention in the two co-drives that saw Whincup finish on the podium in 2005.

There was little to suggest Whincup was going to become the best touring car driver this country has seen. However Triple 8 did see something and the rest is history.

A valid career comparison is that of Jamie and Jimmie Johnson. Johnson lucked into a single Busch series win and while being a regular top 15 runner (at best) in the Busch series landed the drive at Hendrick for the 2002 season. Someone at Hendrick saw something.... and well, you know the story.

Whincup was picked to do the same job he did at with Richards at Tasman, but instead to partner Lowndes.

The "someone" who saw something in Jimmie Johnson was Jeff Gordon. I read an interview of his where he was saying he was running behind Johnson in a rare Busch series race, liked what he saw, and vouched for him to get a drive with Hendrick.

Chaz would have to a safe bet.

Even if not out of contract, he would surely have a performance clause?

The alleged BMW / WAU deal seems dead too.

SCA now at 888...

Another one for Todd Hazelwood. I'd like to see what he could do in top line machinery.

T8 dont go for safe bets, they go for potential winners. I Like Hazelwood as a person but does he have the mongrel in him when it counts.

I remember watching JW and SVG banging doors at Surfers (before they were team mates), JW could have settled for second in the race to protect his championship but he wanted to win that race. That is the commitment that T8 look for.

Under 30, eh? Well it has to be Waters then.

If Heimgartner goes to 888 instead of DJR, that would quite a failure by DJR.

Fullwood would be another excellent choice. I feel like Fullwood has already surpassed Hazelwood in the pecking order of rookies. Perhaps an outside chance for Mr. Le Brocq too?
