PR: Briggs Motorsport Announce Major Expansion for 2002

BRIGGS MOTORSPORT
MEDIA RELEASE

5th OCTOBER 2001

BETTA ELECTRICAL AND BRIGGS MOTORSPORT TEAM UP FOR V8 SUPERCAR ASSAULT

Leading electrical goods retailer Betta Electrical has joined forces with Brisbane-based V8 Supercar team Briggs Motorsport to launch a two-car assault on the Shell Championship Series starting in 2002.

The five-year agreement was announced today at Mount Panorama, Bathurst on the eve of the V8 Supercar 1000 to be staged this weekend.

The Betta Electrical team will run two Ford Falcon AU race cars - joining Briggs Motorsport¹s existing Cat Racing squad and a further car to form a four-car V8 Supercar squad.

The sponsorship deal was announced today by Betta Stores Limited Chief
Executive Officer, Mr Guy Houghton and Ford Australia President, Mr Geoff Polities.

³We conducted a huge amount of research which indicated that V8 Supercar racing provides significant advantages over other forms of promotion,² Mr Houghton said.

³Briggs Motorsport has been selected as our partner in this venture because of the highly impressive professional way the team presents itself. There are a number of great synergies between our two organisations.

³Betta Electrical see V8 Supercar racing as an outstanding way to enhance our brand awareness in the marketplace.

³We have also entered into this as a long-term arrangement to ensure both the team and ourselves achieve maximum benefit from our association. We want to be a highly successful team - the better the team performs, the great our profile will be enhanced.²

The Betta Electrical parent group, Betta Stores Ltd (BSL), is the franchisor of more than 400 electrical stores throughout Australia and New Zealand and is a major shareholder of the world¹s largest homewares buying group, Expert Global, with stores throughout Australia, Europe, USA and Canada.

³The attraction of V8 Supercar racing is the wide demographic and
significant reach of the sport - it is followed by people from all walks of life,² Mr Houghton said.

³This sponsorship will provide outstanding benefits for every Betta
Electrical store in the country. Our brand profile will be significantly enhanced and that will result in greater market share.

³We are extremely excited about the initiative and can¹t wait for the 2002 V8 Supercar season to kick off.²

Drivers for the two-car Betta Electrical team are yet to be determined. John Bowe and Simon Wills currently compete for Briggs Motorsport and the team has already begun the search for additional drivers.

³We are delighted that Betta has shown faith in our team and recognised the outstanding potential of our organisation,² Briggs said.

³Our new base in Queensland has been established with a view to expanding this team into a multi-car operation.

³The sponsorship arrangement will signal the start of a significant growth period for this team and we are looking forward to the year ahead with great excitement.

As in 2001, Briggs Motorsport will remain an official Ford Motorsport
Australia supported team, increasing the number of Falcon¹s doing battle on the V8 Supercar grid.

³We are extremely pleased for Briggs Motorsport and fully endorse its
expansion for 2002,² Ford President, Geoff Polities said.

³From Ford¹s perspective, we like nothing more than the prospect of seeing more competitive Falcon¹s doing battle for the championship and I commend Betta Electrical and thank them for their commitment to one of our key
teams.²

Hmmmm...be careful Briggsy. Did Betta Electrical pull out of John Faulkners Sponsorship a couple of years ago mid season without any warning ?

Or...Have they purchased Faulkners Level One Franchise and he will re-appear with their sponsorship ? I just thought of that.

Interesting...

Hrrmmmm, hrmmmm, and double hrmmm.

a) Put that in your pipe and smoke it Holden!
b) One car to four cars...thats a major piece of effort. I agree that their facilities are top notch, but it would take a bit to get a high level of skilled people in to work for them.
c) Any guesses for drivers? There are possible drives at Morris, PHR, a few others, and now these two.
d) How many professional cars go into 32 grid spots next year?
e) Hrmmm...good news indeed

Both - they were a 'hand in hand' sponsor - F&P pulled out first, then Betta.

Doesn't CAT racing still run under a Level 2 Franchise and arne't there only supposed to be 2 cars to a franchise. I think he is going to big to quick. He goes from 1 car this year to 4 next. Be interesting but I don't think they will achive much.

I reckon this is a bit of a joke. There are just two many cars now. Isn't it about time another manufacturer came into the series? As for the cars themselves, gee, they didn't think very hard about the paint jobs...

Tis a shame that WW didn't get a decent run to strut his stuff. They would only be a level two, but what happened to the old Supercheap franchise? Ellery would have had his own one...

Ellery has his own Level 2 franchise and Briggs has a Level 2 franchise. Maybe John Falkhner will be one of there drivers if he supplies the franchise.........

possible Brock ..but he did turn down the Pirtek drive that Wakefield got because he prefers to run his own cars ..but if he gets the offer i think he should go.
