Poultry Russians competing in F1

Not sure where to post this as the Mazepin thread is closed.
Motorsport Australia has written to the federal government asking them to ban any Russians or Belarusians from entering Australia. They are concerned the FIA regulations don’t give them the authority to exclude them from the meeting in any capacity. However the government could refuse to issue visas.

I think the same legal complexity is affecting the UK 'ban' on Russian competitors.

The story was initially reported as 'Russian drivers have been banned from competing in the UK by the national motorsport authority. Motorsport UK will refuse to recognise licences of competitors from the Russian federation until further notice. It means Nikita Mazepin cannot race in July's British Grand Prix even if he continues to be part of the Haas team.'
This has since become 'The UK motorsport authority has banned Russian and Belarusian drivers from taking part in events in Britain and Northern Ireland. However, this would not necessarily prevent Mazepin from competing in the British Grand Prix as the F1 driver super-licence contains a clause requiring national authorities to permit the driver to take part in F1 events.'

[Mods - apologies if this is too OT for the Haas thread now that Mazepin's contract is terminated. Didn't want to start a new thread on the subject of Russian / Belarusian drivers in general - unless that would be the correct option?]

It's hard when different motorsport federations have different rules. But it's academic now anyway, as Mazepin is out pretty much. So we'll see where we go from here. Although there's nothing in the FIA rulebook preventing a Mazepin return either

If his superlicence is revoked, then no more F1 for him.

Maybe Russian drivers will all move to China and have Chinese licences?

China could end up being the new black from a racing driver perspective.

The Motorsport Australia ban applies to not only drivers but any Russians connected to teams or organisers. Not sure if there is any practical effect as I don’t know of anyone from Russia or Belarus in F1 besides Mazepin.

It must be hard for Russian drivers not being able to compete due to something that they are not being involved in. But sadly actions tend to have consequences for not just those involved. I mean England might not be able to host another major international tournament for a long time thanks to actions of some idiots during last year's Euro Final

Russian drivers can compete if they take a stance against the war and race under a neutral flag. However Rusinov and Kvyat have both refused to do so. If your moral compass isn't good enough to take a stance against the bombing of childrens hospitals, then you get no sympathy.

In the case of Rusinov and Mazepin - they're closely linked to both Putin and the Russian government as a whole. If you align yourself with the evil people to advantage yourself, then that will have consequences

As even the IOC have realised the neutral flag thing is a crock. Those Olympic wins are celebrated and glorified in Russia as national achievements regardless of the piece of cloth hanging behind them on the podium.
The whole point of this is to isolate Russia from the world economically and socially and platitudes from sportspeople is mostly just gaming the rules.
Whatever unfairness is felt by Russian sportspeople is trivial compared to that of the people of Ukraine.
