Great website Roman!!

I've been doing French hillclimbs slowly but surely - we should swap results.

new question

Sorry to go back to the start but...

Does anyone know who claims to own the three "works" cars #7,8 or 9? I was at Watkins Glen last weekend and there was one racing there presented as the Surer car which was surprising to me - but it has been in long term ownership and Surer drove the car a couple of years ago etc etc

the car u saw i expect was gordon medincas car run by Lee chapman racing
car came from vasek polak collection a few yrs ago
the chassis number is 22
it is not a surer car but i think he drove it in the last f2 race of 78 in south america hence why its got that label!

winklehock car 9 is in private collection in usa in full works livery i have the fotos i took of it before it went west!

john i believe yr now living in usa

Thanks for the info. I suspect it is his car as suggested. Pretty and quick.

I am indeed over here and the Toj still resides in the UK having its engine fettled.

Hello, I'm new (ish) to 10 tenths but love 782 so I was pleased to find this thread.

Was the confusion over 782 chassis 10 ever cleared up? I think Anthony Smith sold his car last year?

John

its sad that someone has paid a lot of money for a car that is not the real McCoy
its plate should be removed and re stamped as 3 or 4 numbers over the last car officially built by March so folk are not being hoodwinked

In 09 I'll race with HF2, perhaps I'll come to Donnington in August. Hillclimb is always a great fun for me, sometimes with a little weather-luck, with great success

Why do they combine the two times, rather than take a driver's best time, to arrive at the results?

some events stipulate a certain distance ie 10 km circuit
so if the hillclimb is only 5 km run its a basically a maths test 2x5=10km hence combined time

The Abba Kogan 782, Drifty. Know its history? Good pics of it elsewhere on here. Did we say the Meyrick and other UK-782 in HF2 (can't recall his name now!) cars are ex-Tolemans?

Dan

The Kogan one is a fake made up from parts, but carries the chassis plate 782-10 whuich is the ex Chris Cramer hillclimb car and Euro F2 in 78 prior to that, but not sure who with, could be De Dryver? Drifty will know. The real 782 -10 is owned by 10/10 poster Znarfg.

Not sure about the Meyrick car. I think its 782-2 which has a chequered history and covered here before but in short Paul Smith had 782-2 in early 80's and possibly 2 cars came out of one. There is another car in ZA with chassis plate 782-2. I think Meyrick has 782-12 which was ex Toleman and genuine and also a bitza that was built up by Bill Wood for hillclimbing with 783 tub, BDG and FT200.

I think Mark Dwyers car came in from USA via Sean Walker and is #11 and is ex Maublanc team car along with the one which Sean Walker currently races, but not sure of the chassis number for that one.

Thanks James, I think the Paul Smith car was ex-Tolemans too in period.

Dan dont get me started on that AK car it is a fknose special !
jeremy smith raced it last year with wrong engine wrong type of plate fitted in car in wrong place with the 10 tag of the cramer hillclimb car that has been in germany for nigh on 20 years bought direct form chris cramer with bmw motor !
i heard the car is actually a 79B as the 78 79 tubs are the same for atlantic car

i brought the MRS car form usa to SW who did nowt with it sold it to dwyer as he wanted to buy his old IWR elan back to race
he runs 16 as he bought from france 3 years ago

toleman cars
PM bought from andrew peach his f3 converted to 2 litre bdg for hillclimbing car ex chris drewitt / bill wood car- this was in fact a 783 dave price car with ft200 in it for f3
AP had Jade install hart 420r
AP also had a pile of parts car with a toleman assigned plate from usa and toleman livery pods etc
PM bought all from Peach
then PM bought the other toleman car ex rad dougall/ paul (BMTR) smith ( 1 of 2 with same tag) car that had for years been run by Phil Price in sprinting
that car has now been traded out to another for an f1 car

so in essence PM owns the 783 cum F2 car and has built up the other car in bits from usa with toleman plate

all the usual cars running there are no new/ un seen cars on the grid

Regarding some confusion over this car's chassis number, Smith sold this car to Warren Heron in Auckland in early eighties (maybe 1982?). Ken confirms that the car has chassis tag with #15, as it did when he bought it off Murray Taylor in 1980. He is 100% sure it never had #16 plate on it, maybe someone didn't see it clearly and got confused?

Ken bought it back from Heron at the end of 2008, still in original condition as last raced. I have pics of it now with tag but don't know how to upload...

Allen, if you spent an hour on the phone to Kenny you could probably clear up the histories of most of the cars that ever raced in NZ!!!
