Well that karting went well.

Keep it short but decided to run my dad old racewear for the first time 20 years on from its last race.
Qualified P19 which was terrible. During the 30 mins race worked up to P2 and crossed the line 4 abreast and all 4 wheels on the grass/run off. Wow and got a 5 quid trophy aswell yipee.

The racing was brutal but fair and was a thrill to be apart of with handshakes and all at the end.

True Peter, however I can switch it off.

Also, at least in theory, the "authorities" have to ask a service provider (whom they charge with the responsibility of keeping client data private for the most part) for the information.

That is somewhat different to the concept of full time tracking of the population.

Now if I wish to allow them to track me - via the use of my bus pass for example - in return for a free service I can consider that to be a reasonable 'deal' if I wish.

And if the authorities could clearly come up with a justification based on total tracking making the country more secure as 'bad people' could be monitored continually in exchange for the mainly good people also being tracked, then that too might just be acceptable. It would, however, some with the risk of giving up just about all privacy at some point were such a proposal to be fully effective on the security side.

But for the authorities (and even worse their usually poorly designed and implemented IT systems) to have a fiscal vested interest in tracking people's everyday movements as part of some transport tax generation scheme is, IMO, taking things do a different level. Partly because it won't happen without other changes of a similarly controlling nature. Moving towards doing everything on line for example.

I think there is an interesting point to consider about where the 'on-line' world flips from being a convenience and and aid to our lives into a control system for what we loosely term "Government".

Will people notice the change?

Will there be benefits that outweigh the erosion of what we think of as self determining freedom?

My guess is that, age wise, it's probably not something I'm going to be personally stressed by - at least not for long unless thing happen much quicker than would be usual for the "authorities".

But then if someone really does force the issues something, probably not a very good something, could roll out quite quickly.

Once they've eliminated cash, for example ...

Just switching off your phone does not mean it cannot be tracked.

And with all new cars from 2015 fitted with trackers , [ possible compulsory fitting to older cars soon ] .

2015? I thought it was 2021. Whatever, without straying onto the wrong thread, I find it ironic that these trackers are being brought in by a certain trade organisation that likes to pretend 'freedom of movement' is one of its main pillars!

Well, it has to justify all of the tracking system investment somehow John. That would give some more potential for claiming some credibility when discussing accounting practises.

Have to say that Dunkirk was IMO exceptional but I agree war films are often, how we won etc. An older war movie that was worth seeing was Enemy at the Gates. Tense.

That settles it then! I will have to limit myself to owning pre-2015 cars, not that that is really likely to be a problem. I've only just bought a 2007 car which should be good for a few years.

Oh, & that article was dated on my birthday!

Hmm.......Its the Daily Fail, and therefore exceedingly unlikely to be accurate. Its dated 2014, and as far as I'm aware it wasn't introduced the following year. And my newest car is 2010, so I don't care anyway

I've seen on Facebook some rather vague pictures from Mallory Park of what is claimed to be work to provide quicker egress from the paddock.....looks like a direct crossing of the pit straight that can presumably be opened up briefly in between races as it would only be a quick crossing rather than now trundling from the Esses up to the hairpin.

Anyone any further information?

I know what you mean but I was engrossed from the start. Thought the filmography was excellent. Some harrowing scenes as you'd expect.

Although their parts were small, excellent performances from Mark Strong and Cumberbatch.

Whilst I'm not really into war films I have to agree. Enemy at the Gates was superb, I've seen it 3 times over the years and although the production has a feeing of being somewhat amateurish, the leads are great particularly Ed Harris and the tension is palpable.

For those of you who have been enjoying Bauble's picture gallery, I came across reference to this site on Facebook the other day - might be of interest to those of a more north of England or Scottish persuasion, since many of the pics (particularly the race ones) are of Croft, Ingliston or Knockhill.
