I seem to remember that the 2017 race was very wet, and there were no safety cars till after the rain stopped, now I do have a age problem and maybe my memory is a bit off.

Has worked in the past, especially when the rain comes later in the Shootout.

Seem to remember Wayne Gardner putting a Glenn Seton Falcon on pole.

Any maybe another year Murph and Alan Simonsen RIP

Hopefully, they have moved the lights to a position more visible to Jamie to help bring further parity to the field.

If they haven't, more parody for us.......Hello Darkness, My Old Friend......

SES already talking about closing campgrounds. One has been closed already apparently. You can take it as a given that the main car park won’t be opened.Flooding expected in the area and possibly roads into and around Bathurst likely to be closed.
I was going up early Friday morning but moving into watch and act mode.
What parts of the track would be susceptible to flooding? The Chase?Given the ground will be so wet there will be nowhere for water to run off to in places there may be others. The dip in Mountain Straight?Reid Park after the grate?
I can recall a support race at 1 of the Production Car 12 Hours being stopped and racing for the day abandoned because the track was flooded pretty much from the Elbow to the Chase because of a torrential storm. This is going to be different because by about Friday there will be little or no run off of rainwater.

Your memory is correct.First rain of the week started as cars set off on their warm up lap.

How come they are putting out all these weather statements? There have been races in the rain before, no?

There has been multiple severe floods across the state in the last year. Not only with some loss of life and property destruction on a huge scale but also with long term road closures isolating some towns long term.
Because this level of rainfall over a long term is pretty much unprecedented it is unable to soak into already saturated land which makes all of the above highly likely rather than just possible.
The joys of climate change.

And its only Thursday

Spare a thought for the volunteers that make the Bathurst 1000 happen!

Great weekend playing in the mud, ankle deep in water living the dream!

Completely agree

Surely its time for the Federal Government to resume the land around the circuit and convert it to a permanent circuit and fixture...

The lads driving car #17 wouldn't want to be superstitious! Yeah, today was a helluva thing for the team.

Great to have all the coverage again courtesy of Superview thanks Supercars, love the mix of cars in the Heritage Revival. I know it's going to be wet but loving the sights and sounds of Bathurst.

Commentators seem to be mystified as to why SVG couldn't pull it up after the chase, but the same as Luffy yesterday he put the right hand wheels on the white line late in the stop, I am sure of it.

Lucky not to lose more cars..
Some drainage work around the circuit would be helpful to removing the rivers and puddles that seem to be in critical parts of the circuit..

Interesting to see Mr Hazelwood work hand on with his team to repair the car he stacked in the rain in the practice session...

You bend, you mend policy in play.

Good to see a driver get in an help his crew.

Standout for day was Richie Stanaway.

SVG cops a 3 place grid penalty from where he qualifies in the shootout tomorrow.

Got pinged for the final lap of qualy when he tried to squeeze an also on his final flyer Macauley Jones. SVG tagged Jones who hit the all hard at the Dipper.

Jones had every right to not fall over and quit his lap just because SVG was quicker. Last lap of qualifying Shane should have shown a bit of respect not been a big bully. Passing in the middle of the Dipper. Not an option in qualy when both on a lap.
Thats my take on it. Im sure others wont agree.

Im not a fan of Stanaway but credit where credits due that was mighty, given his time away and the conditions.

BJR cars notorious for wobbling around in quali, and Jones was slow - Shane had caught him up by a mile, then he was wide, looking like he was letting Shane past.

I won't disagree with the penalty but Jones had his part to play and has form.

Something to ponder as a wonder..
Had Mr Whincup gotten #88 into the shootout, would 888 have given the keys back to Mr Feeney to take a crack at the top 10?
