JTCC Exiv and chaser difference?

Does anyone know what's the difference between the Toyota Exiv and Toyota Chaser? They look exactly the same? Specifically, I recall Toyota raced both these models in the JTCC.

According to the description, this forum is also used to discuss motorsports in Southeast Asia/Asia. The JTCC belongs in Asia and so it appears in this forum.

You'll have to excuse the V8 supercar Fanboys. There short a few bricks in their barbies.

Trev - This isn't a V8Supercar or Australian only forum.

kmchow - From memory Toyota just homologated two different models of cars to compete in the JTCC. They funded a heap of cars in the championship, and it is a pity in my mind that the likes of a TOMS-prepared Chaser never got the chance to run against the best in the BTCC or even German STW Cup.

I have a race report somewhere of round 1 of the 1998 (and last) JTCC from Fuji, where 10 cars started the round. 9 were Super Touring Toyota's (both Chaser's and Exiv's), the other was a GrpN Subaru Imprezza wagon.

I'll dig out the race report and see if it mentions the differences in there.

From what I recall, they ran Chasers, EXIVs and for a while, partially funded a Corolla team as well. The Exiv seems like a sub-model of the Chaser?

Well, once a year, that happened. It came as close as the Macau Guia Grand Prix. There were several years that Audi/BMW/Toyota/Nissan raced against each other. I think the Toyota/Nissan were Works/semi-works, depending on the year.

Interestingly, it seems kmchow is right... the forum description is as follows:

"Australasian Touring Car Series - Discussion on the ever popular V8 Supercars, as well as the V8 Lites, Future Tourers, ASTC and series in New Zealand and Japan.
Forum hosted by: Crash Test, mtpanorama"

So the JTCC does seem to belong here....

If you want to post about Japanese touring cars here you are more than welcome.

If you don't want to post about Japanese touring cars, nobody is forcing you to

Why is discussing about the JTCC Toyotas ricer racing? The was a legitimate ST series? It became more GT-ish in the last year, but I can't see how it is ricer racing?

KMChow,
i think unless it has a V8 and either a ford/holden badge on it, it is not racing according to some people with rather red necks
Don't worry about them. Just out of interest is there some good web sites on the JTCC during this period ?

That wasn't a stab at anyone in particular. I just wish some people would not hassel those who don't subscribe to the V8 Supercar stuff thats all.
Don't take it personally, sorry if it did offend you.

cheers,

dave
