Total Spa 24 Hours 2008- August 2-3

Hello lads, ladettes, ladies, gents and others...

Wondering who's going?

Trying to put a trip together, and a budget.

At the moment, it looks like it's going to be around £300 for a car from Midlands right to Spa, but if anyone has any advances on that I'm very much all ears. That's including two 55 Euro all inclusive entry wristbands.
If you're belgian, they're currently 10 Euro for entry, and 50 euro for full entry including paddock etc from Total garages.

There's a hint RLM will cover the race, too

www.fiagt.com
www.total24hours.com
http://www.fiagt.com/results.php is the entry list for Adria, but no doubt we'll see some additions to that.

Did it last year, worth every single penny

If anyone has any ideas, feel free to PM, or of course if anyone has a spare place in a vehicle

Thanks as usual, Jake.

Yep, going. Can take or leave Le Mans, but not this event.

No space in car. Go with Dad each year and visit WW1 sites on lazy drive back to Dunkerque on Mon / Tue.

BTW - Dover to Dunkerque is v. cheap if you haven't already considered it.

We'll be first-timers at the 24 hours although we've been to quite a few sportscar races at Spa. I started a Spa 24 Hours 2008 thread in April as I was looking for advice on parking, likely crowdedness etc.
Really looking forward to it especially after Silverstone in April, I imagine it'll be a bit more laid back than Le Mans.

Just coming back from Le Mans a few days ago, but the trip to Spa is already fixed!
The next big race is on schedule in nearly five weeks. Hope for nice weather during the weekend and it'll be fine!!

I think I'm still gonna stick to it and beg, steal an borrow my way there basically, and hope to get a pay off on a scoop picture, or something, or just get HUGELY lucky.

Can but hope. Definitely I would prefer it over LM, LM is just so commercialised.

Can't make it this year but I'm seriously considering it for 2009, I really like the idea of a less-commercialised event with less drunkards and more enthusiasts.

I have the thought of making it a week-long tour of the region, stopping by at Spa for the Saturday and Sunday. Anyone done that kinda thing before, or know any good towns/cities/places to visit along the way and the way back?

I have also wondered about the food, drink and facilites at Spa?

Plenty of places you can get food and drink at Spa, although not all of them are open around the far reaches of the track. The bar in the paddock is good for beers, coffee and various snacks, lots of chips and mayo! There's a bit more variety than Le Mans too, they do a thing called "salad".

As for places to visit on the way, I usually go straight there, it's less than 4 hours. Had the odd unplanned excursion in Brussels though, so make sure you're ready for that.

Gonna try and get this moved to trackside, probably got more of a response there.

Agreed. For a Bar b go to the Epicier in Francorchamps and get some of their suasages and brochettes and the Boulangerie for some fresh bread.

Instead of round Brussels try turning onto the A25/E42 at Dunkerque then round Lille and on to Leige. About 3.5 hours to Spa from Calais if towing and being careful.

As to places to visit, Stavelot has a great motorsport museum.

That route sounds worth a go! Is it any more interesting through Northern France/Belgium?

Won't be towing, more "flat out" if you like...

It's a long time since I did the Brussels route (1990) so can't tell you if its better. I do know its convenient though.

downside would be the extra cost for the peages in france - don't know about anyone else but that's the main motivator in escaping to belgium as soon as possible?

Didn't think of that. Depends how much it is versus time saved versus cost of fuel etc.

By car and not towing you should be faster via Brussels. The Lille route can be very busy to as far as Mons in Belgium.

But:

Ther are MAJOR roadworks going on on the SE side of Brussels (just inside of the outside circular road) causing monster jams since the work started 2 days ago.
So best to steer clear of Brussels, both ways. The work should end early September.

You can always go as well via Gent-Antwerp-Hasselt-Liege, all a bit longer but no real hassle.

I think I had that route suggested to me when I went to the 'Ring in February. Just went the normal way though.

Isn't Gent or Hasselt near Zolder? Because I'm probably going straight from Spa to Zolder. Is it easy? Anywhere worth stopping in between (will have 3 or 4 days).

The Antwerp ring has toll clockwise northbound (Liefkenshoektunnel), not through the Kennedytunnel.

Hasselt is near Zolder, only a few miles away. If you have time to spare there are a few things to see as well. A good place to stay near Zolder is the Intermotel at Lummen. Sits next the motorway junction near the track.

There's a Formule 1 in...I think Liege, that worked OK for the trip home.

Even if we were late...

So how many people here will be going there for the first time?
