I suspect Rebellion will take stock after Le Mans, or potentially post Austin, and think about where they want to focus and what they want to do.

They've got three chassis, and so long as one of them hasn't been totalled and they haven't been running down their spare parts stock I can see them looking at either continuing to run two cars in WEC or shifting to two cars in ALMS - Petit is a problem given the schedule conflict, but I suspect they could manage to find some additional driver talent, and some contract engineers to do it if they really wanted.

Did anyone figure out yet what Lotus brings to the table in this deal? I was surprised to still see the Lotus stickers on the car this year.

So rebellion are going with a bespoke build chassis by oreca! Great to hear we will see another lmp1 manufacturer!
It's name is going to be the Rebellion R-one. Engine is to remain a Toyota still unknown what type of engine it's going to be.

They said it is going to be an updated RV8KLM (the engine they're using now).

I really hope they will get something more innovative then that. Maybe they can put a couple of turbo's on it?

The car looks good but worried that the engine is a little out of date, still wish the team all the best and fingers crossed it will start to challenge the factory teams

I hope it looks just like the rendering, but the rear wing seems the size of this year's cars and not 1800mm. Maybe the RV8 engine will be increased in displacement with a lower rev limit. Im glad theyre staying with Toyota power and using Oreca for their car. They said the specification of the engine will be finalized, so obviously its a new engine but the same RV8 family.

"Were sort of toward larger displacement N/A at the moment". Thats what I figured Toyota would do for a customer engine. Well, no decision yet but thats my bet.

Interesting times.

Sounds as if Toyota's blessing is forthcoming.
They're either confident in Rebellion/Oreca not being an outright contender, or satisfied with that being a possibility.

Interesting also that they've inferred it's a blank-slate design.

Quote:
Q: Is the Rebellion R-One derived from the stillborn ORECA 02 project?

HAYDEN: That was one of my first questions. But the answer I was given was that the regulations are so radically different that there's not much that really translates directly from that design. In some ways, that's quite refreshing because you're getting something current and not having been mothballed. I think that's a positive thing.

...

Q: What are the R-One’s engine specifications?

HAYDEN: It's too early to really say on that. Clearly, the engine that we have is reliable and it would be a good base to start from. But with the new regulations being written around fuel efficiency, there's a fairly big debate at the moment of whether it's better to go large displacement, normally aspirated or smaller displacement turbo.

If you look at where we are, we're sort of towards the larger displacement N/A at the moment. We think there are some advantages of that but clearly some packaging disadvantages. It's a tough one to know which way one will go. We need to see where Toyota comes and what they suggest. They're doing the studies at the moment and we'll trust them in what they decide.

Early announcement from Rebellion (in the AM) but good news certainly.

Still can't help thinking that once everything shakes out they'll still be in a different fight to the manufacturers but they are a GREAT team and it's good to see them re-commit to P1.

So I take it this was the announcement which was mooted for test weekend? Or is there something else coming?
