1980 Tricentrol RAC British Saloon Car Championship - Discussion & Results

Jumping on the bandwagon (although this one is a little behind) I seem to miss some 1980 results. Perhaps you can help me out here.

What I miss is this:
-Decent results from Oulton Park, round 2, April 4, 1980 (I do have some text here)
-I haven't got anything on round 4, Silverstone, April 20, 1980
-Finally, don't have anything as well on round 7, Mallory Park, August 17

Help would be much appreciated, and in a few years I might be able to catch up with the Group A results...

Frank, no problem, I think we'll all be happy to conribute. I was going to continue working backwards in time (until late 70's) when I first knew of Capris racing etc. but I was going to add 1981 first!!

By the way have you seen that 1980 Tricentrol link that 'slartibartfast' linked a few months back? What did you make of all that?

1980 was all about Gordon Spice Racing in the top class IIRC. Spice and Rouse became known as 'The Red Arrows' thanks to their formation finishing at most rounds.

Come to think of it, i'm not sure if any other drivers won races overall with the exception of Jeff Allam and Win Percy?

You mean the footage? That's an idea, I saved it quite some time ago but hadn't thought about it!

Not much luck on round 4, though it must have been a great race. Rouse won, but the rest is unclear (Greenslade 2nd?).

I got the Motoring News newspapers in that year. I am due to a house move soon so I will dig up what you are looking.

This is one I'm probably going to have to sit back and read, rather than contribute to, as I've got very little on 1980

The 1980 Video unfortunately misses round 7 (August 17) Mallory Park completely as well - or was it perhaps cancelled?
Edit: No it wasn't, the Gordon Spice book mentions the race, which was won by G.S.; so that's something at least...

The Easter stuff isn't on that video review either unfortunately?

Yes i'll also check back on some old reports and stuff and see if we can get some basic results rolling and then start filling the gaps?

That's a good idea. This is what I have so far:

Oulton Park, round 2, April 4 1980
Over 1600:
1 Spice
2 Rouse
3 Woodman
4 Goode (all Capri)
5 Allam (Rover)
6 Percy, Mazda, 2300 cc winner.
Result unknown: Brunt/Vauxhall, Morrison/Mazda, Williams/Mazda
DNF: Graham/Capri
Under 1600:
1 Hodgetts, Toyota
2 Morris, Scirocco
3 Lloyd, Audi
4 Longman, Fiesta
5? Watts, Talbot Avenger
1st 1300: Curnow, Fiesta
9 OA, class unknown: Moss, Audi
DNF: Eadie, Fiesta and Mowatt/Mini

Silverstone International Trophy, round 4, April 20:
1 Rouse
2 Spice both Capri
Class winners: Percy/Mazda, Curnow/Fiesta 1.3 and Hodgetts/Toyota
Unknown: Alam/Rover, Woodman/Capri, Morgan and Williams/Mitsubishi/Colt, Lloyd/Audi
DNF: Spice/Capri, Lanfranchi/Vauxhall although the latter could have been classified as he seems to have been the reason for the red flag.

Mallory Park, round 7, August 17
over 1600: 1 Spice/Capri
under 1600: 1 Lanfranchi/Audi

I've just finished round 10, but no further clues on rounds 2, 4 and 7. If anyone comes across a points table that would be most welcome as well.

Take your time, there's much more to do on 1980 - like the German championship...

Ok this is what I can make out so far for the top placings in the big class:

R1 Mallory Park:
1 Rouse (F Lap)
2 Spice
3 Woodman
4 ?
5 Greenslade
6 ?

Class B
1 Percy (F Lap)
2 Morrison (TWR RX7)
3 Saunders (Dolly Sprint)
4 ?
5 Brunt (Magnum)
6 ?

Class C
1 Morris
2 Longman
3 Hodgetts (F Lap)
4 ?
5 ?
6 ?

Class D
1 Mowatt (Mini 1275, F Lap)
2 Pitcher (1275)
3 Spiller (Avenger)
4 Eadie (Fiesta
5 Dooley (Sud)

Clearly a few placings need confirming. In Class A other runners at the meeting were Allam, Goode (likely a points scorer as the review states he started off best of the rest of the Capris before sliding backwards over the rest of the season), Whiting, Graham (ran here and at the second round at Oulton before selling it), Muir (in his elderly Capri Mk2 prior to the Patrick SD1 coming along at the Silverstone June meeting I believe?).

I have less of an idea about smaller class runners though.

Sorry Chunterer, I was perhaps not clear enough; for rounds 1, 3, 5-6 and 8-10 I do have reasonable information (mostly places 1-4 per class, sometimes more and parts of the gird); my hunt is especially about rounds 2, 4 and 7 of 1980.

It's ok Frank, i'd like the thread to develop along the lines of the other BTCC ones, so results and comments for each round will be welcome!

Three races in particular:

-Decent results from Oulton Park, round 2, April 4, 1980 (I do have some text here)
-I haven't got anything on round 4, Silverstone, April 20, 1980
-Finally, don't have anything as well on round 7, Mallory Park, August 17

For the other races I do have results, mostly first 4 per class and part of the grid, which is similar to the other BSCC years on my site - that's OK for now.
