Sensible Mick
Just received the latest issue of the MSF tome 'The Marshal'and on page 9 came across a very sensible letter from Mick Glover (he of the Teddy Bears!). Asking why Marshals are not treated better @ International Meetings in this Country. I have to agree with him 100%, which is why when I'm not Clerking, I'll always find a clubbie meeting somewhere rather han a 'big' meeting. A couple of years ago I very nearly came to blows with a Scotish jobsworth @ Rockingham, on the Saturday morning of an F3 meeting. Which is why you'll always find me on the Stowe circuit (food voucher, raffle prize, sensible finish time etc), rather than being treated like something that they've trodden in. There's also a very good pullout survey for Marshals in the magazine, well worth looking out for. |

I expect Mick got one of the bears to write the letter for him.

How come though that Mick seemed to be the only Marshal at Oulton with the "Wrong" pass?
The instructions were very clear as to where/when to gain entry to the circuit and AFAIAA there was only one kind of pass for marshals and that was the bog-standard ticket-type! |

Aside from the 'wrong' passes at Silverstone and Oulton, I am in total agreement with Mick (and his bears, who incidentally run quite a good post!). I marshalled at a BTCC meeting (Donington Park) this year for the first time in nearly 3 years; I realised after a very short time why I made the decision not to volunteer for so called 'International meetings' and to stick to clubbie meets; shall not make that mistake again. Although I must admit to being quite bemused at the amount of marhsals who turned up to the BTCC meeting; it would be very nice to have half as many as club racedays. |

Trouble is, unless more of us vote with our feet, nothing will happen. It's noticable on television, how the crowds are down for both BTTC & F3 meetings as well.

No need to worry in 2005 tho, as far as i know MSV still haven't got either F3 or BTCC due to contract negotations that are still not concluded...

They could always run BTCC on the dodgems at the fair - of course the driving standards would need to improve, but you would only need one marshal! Solve everyones problems.

Hey thats sounds like fun, jumping on the back of tommo's car, and shout at him 'keep your foot on the pedel' and we can reach in and steer it for them as well...
