Most overrated driver.

I have been reading with interest all the stuff regarding the main game drivers who have a spot because of financial reasons which gets me onto the thread title, who is the main games most overrated driver.
I cant go past Steven Richards only because i dont think Dumbrell is rated.
Your thoughts !!

S.Richards is a good choice.
In this day and age I would also add Mark Skaife.
James Courtney as well.

I didnt mean to bring S Richards into the financial side of things.
It was because of the " bring the money with you drivers" conversation that got me onto the most overrated driver topic. It doesnt mean that the most overrated driver has to be a " pay for the drive" man.

F J Nedos should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
From the Ford camp...
  • S. Richards. Clear winner.
  • S. Johnson. Been around too long and not shown glimpses of brilliance that others (either camp) have.
  • J. Courtney. He could prove me wrong but I don't think V8's are his gig.
From the Holden camp...
  • P. Dumbrell. No comments needed.
  • T. Kelly. I've never seen him as championship material. Maybe he can lift with his new team and show some brilliance in some form.
  • A. Jones. His current steer is a good machine and Cam is going OK in it. I think he would serve as a good enduro driver and someone else can utilise this car full time during the year.

Others could have made these lists, however I have only listed people who have been around long enough to show some improvement or justify their claims to greatness.

I look at it like this - if I were a team owner, I wouldn't employ any of the above drivers based on their current form and current history.

If this came from anyone else, saying Australian Touring Cars most winningest driver and owner of 3 V8 Supercar era Championship titles alone not to mention multiple Bathurst victories is over-rated that poster would be perceived to be heavily retarded. The kind of drooling simpleton who could barely be trusted to operate a light switch let alone a computer keyboard and would require constant care and supervision 24/7.

But in this case it's just business as usual.

James Courtney and Paul Morris. That is if anyone rates these drivers anymore? Also, Greg Murphy is over rated IMO.

Greg Murphy definatly overrated. except at NZ races Bathurst and Indy, for the rest of the time he is way over rated.

I think some are being a bit hard on Richo

Richo holds his own.

But the other Richo doesn't........Jason Richards may be a nice fella but he's a dud V8SC driver IMO.

Ooooh ouch! I'm a Ford man but even I don't think that. I reckon he's got the goods and needs to hop into a fast car to prove it. He's not had a fast car.

I think that's massive call and your waaaaay off on that one. Jason Richards is a quick driver and I'd love to have him at FPR for instance.

Head like a smacked arse and couldn't sell anymore FPV models than Steven could but still... I reckon he's a quick peddler.

Way too inconsistent Stevo for mine.

Richo in a Perkins car was consistant but not consistantly up in the order around the podium, has been blown away by Frosty at FPR although Richo isquite solid just not great.

James Courtney (in a V8) although there could be other factors but so far in his V8 career he has shown he is quick and he can damage cars at neally every round look at 07 (especially Hidden Vaalley).

My what a poisonous thread. Can't we do enough bagging of the drivers we do not like in threads on other topics, that we have to create a whole thread with which to perpetuate our collective vitriol?

The bagging of my optimistic idealism can now commence.

Because that's what this thread is really. Unproductive bagging.

Is this a violation of the attack the post and not the posters convention?

I will agree with you on the first two, but Price isn't overated and has got serious talent and Moffat is one of the greats, better the Brock by far (and nicer block to talk to as well) and that is coming from a hard core Holden man.

In general, I believe there a few who have past the 'BEST BEFORE' dates. Still show some excellence occasionally, but never come close.

My ladder of overrated:
1. Murphy
2. S. Richards
3. Skaife (past the 'BEST BEFORE' date more than anything)
4. R. Kelly
5. A. Jones
6. Dumbrell
7. Marshall
8. Courtney
9. S. Johnson
10. Ingall

Wow, I reckon thats harsh, I don't think he's that highly rated to begin with. I mean he drove that TKR Pig for 2 years and finished a creditable 19th in 2002. He nearly had victory at Sandown for Dynamik in 2003. His team mate is the highly rated (generally, not by everybody here obviously) Greg Murphy who he is an easy match for. I'd say thats grounds enough not to rate him as over rated. I think he's actually under rated.

But still, its all a matter of opinion and I respect yours.

interesting TSR, Rick and Murph the 2 most hated by Ford fans drivers . IMO you can't really call a chmpionship winner 2 times Bathurst champ over rated, he has been very good the last 2 years and 2 rounds, Murph well he has 4 Bathursts all but 3 Puke rounds to his name, wins at other tracks (that many think he goes no good at) and he is bloody quick and now it seems he has found some much needed consistancy, yes it is most likely he will never win the championship but rounds are definatly not beyond his ability.

If you can't call a 2 times championship winner overrated, then how is it possible that more than one person agrees that Skaife is past it now?

For my money, Skaife is the most overrated driver at this point of his career.
