you know the type from ASDA, Sainsburys etc
well they might be cheaper but are they lower quality fuel?

How about the small petrol stations that you've never heard of, are these going to be lower quality than the big names?

There was a bad batch of supermarket fuel in North West Wales a month or two ago - hundreds of cars all parked up by the side of the road because their engines had packed up.

Personally, I'm sticking with the brand stuff.

I don't know about this really. Get the majority of my petrol from Safeway (they give you a discount of up to 12p a litre depending on what you spend on your shopping), and I'm sure I heard somewhere Safeway simply buy in their petrol from BP which is sure to be good. That's where else I sometimes go.

Having worked in the petrol industry(used to work for a company who manufactured petrol tankers) I can say without doubt that the petrol is the same...
They ALL collect from the same refinery and the only difference is the additives they use such as detergents etc which basically cannot affect the general performance of the fuel ....

Whatever's cheapest for me! Local Supermarket fuel was 75.9p today, so filled-up. Glad I avoided the branded petrol station at 81.9p that I passed yesterday!

I generally use Tescos, which at our local branch is Texaco fuel. Our local Morrisons is also Texaco.
Logrence, there's been a couple of batches of bad fuel in the north west in the last couple of months. In each case, affecting a number of different brands of petrol and last time I heard anything about it on the news, it said they still didn't know the source. It was saying garages in Liverpool, Manchester, Preston and lancaster had been affected.

northampton's bloody expensive, so i try and find a cheap place whether it's a supermarket or wherever. i think the branded garages are about the same as supermarkets, all about 77p a litre.

No point in trying to find cheap petrol in Rip Off City, sorry, Milton Keynes. It's 78.9p per litre of lead free wherever you go, supermarket or otherwise. Looks like there is a local cartel operating. I can't believe it's actually cheaper to buy the stuff in central London, but it is.

asda in corby = 72.9p at the moment.
stopped there to fill up today and nearly fell over. so cheap! we're a good 5p more expensive in northampton.

Now it might be my other factors, but I consistently get lower mpg from the small petrol station near me than when I go to a brand station. A friend of mine said that he got the same. He couldn't get to Silverstone and back on a tank from this petrol station, but could from elsewhere!

Having said that I am sure the supermarket stuff is as good.

Grabbed a couple of jerries full of Optimax from down the road, it was the same price as the unleaded at 78.9p. That'll do for Brands next week.

The fuel come from the same sources bu the additives are very different - I know that certain types of fuel make my car run terribly - having been caught out on a rally last season by dodgy supermarket fuel.

On my way to Knockhill today had a look at a few prices. Generally, Jet is the cheapest, but 2 Jet stations, only a matter of a mile apart had a price difference of 2p a litre! Cheapest was 72.9 at Jet and 75.9 at BP.

over here in OZ petrol stations have to have sign on bowsers stating wether there fuel has any ethanol in it
