BTW, my picture of David Piper's green Ferrari seems to have gone missing. Absolutely wonderful car, IMO. I also nearly posted a picture of the burger and chips that I ate in my Meridian hotel room at Heathrow on Sunday night. Burger and chips, mark you, delivered to my room. Guess how much. 24 quid. Yep, 24 English pounds for a very ordinary burger and chips, although it did have avacado. That apart, the weekend was a total sensory overload. Truly, truly wonderful. It's now my must do event in my calender. It's replaced Le Mans in my affections. |

£24 for a burger, that's plain robbery that is . Unbelieveable. Everything else about the weekend though I totally agree with, it is a wonderful event.

Some other memories, for those that didn't attend Thursday's cricket match and drivers' briefing:
- A McLaren F1 in the car park (burgundy, presumably Rowan Atkinson's). When everyone piled out at the end, blow me there's two of the buggers! The second owner was certainly brave - to park next to the first, he was VERY close to the entrance gate, and there were a lot of big cars trying to negotiate the gap... - An awesome Spitfire display. I am told that as it was not a public display, normal rules don't apply. Watching him take a deep dive into a low (25'?) strafing run, straight at you certainly grabs your attention (not least when you realise that if something went wrong and it hit the deck, your only option would be to try and catch it, Superman-style, as you wouldn't have time to run away) Then Perry McCarthy's idea of a drivers' briefing, which broadly went as follows: "The Yellow Flag: Yellow is the colour of cowardice. The marshals are calling you a coward. Keep your foot in, and press on. The Red Flag: Red means anger. The marshals feel you are not being aggressive enough. Keep your foot in, and press on. The White Flag: The white flag is the international sign for surrender. The marshals think you have given up. Keep your foot in, press on, and show them! The Blue Flag: This means nothing. The marshals will wave it when they have nothing else to wave. Ignore it, keep your foot in, and press on regardless. The Chequered Flag: This means you have SLIGHTLY LESS than one more lap to overtake the guy in front. Keep your foot in, and press on. Finally, to repeat Lord March's comments, please remember there are some expensive cars out there. This is meant to be a fun weekend, not a Grand Prix. If you are not certain there is a gap, don't go for it. And I'm looking at our German guests now, we don't want to see any antics like your Mr Schumacher. Just remember - the Spitfire you just saw isn't just there for show..." The poor old Clerk of Course wasn't quite sure how to follow that. |

A truly marvellous weekend. Something great to photograph in every corner.
Did you see the 'Dad's Army' re-enactment by the flying club entrance? |

Shock horror! Terrific thread guys with some great pics and I just love the McCarthy briefing - marvellous! I'm really cheesed off that I was in a caravan in Devon instead of at Goodwood with my freebie tickets. Next year I will make it! |

Heartfelt thanks to all that are posting pictures and reports on this thread. It must have been a wonderful event.
Last year, during the ALMS race in Elkhart Lake, I met a family that had been to Goodwood in 2001, and their account made me want to go there at the first opportunity - the father of that family just stop short of sheding tears remembering that weekend... |

The great thing about Goodwood, apart from the cars and racing of course, are the air displays. Ray Hanna approaching to land his P40, so low over the heads of the Madgwick corner crowd.
