Just looked at the calendar for next year and very surprised to see Blyton is back. Great news indeed that the circuit is back in use. Real shame that Lydden can't seem to or want to accommodate the BTRDA. But onwards and upwards as they say.

I know the regs aer only draft but this is a pretty basic question. What are the major differences between "Clubman Supercar" and BRC Supercar class?

I ask because if Clubman is lower spec, lower engine output, etc then my Escort Cosworth could be fun to bring out. If it is just BRC cars racing (if politics allow) in a different Championship then I get wiped off the face of the earth.

Very pleased to see BTRDA back. Should never have been lost and glad it is running seperate from the BRC. Shame Lydden isn't in there - home of rallycross not hosting rallycross. Also love to see the Classic Minicross back.

Great to see the BTRDA back. Even better to see Blyton on the calendar. I'm hoping Mallory will be back there one day too.

I'm not up to date - what's the story with Lydden? Are they still charging too much for 'outside' organisers? Or is it political stuff? Sad state of affairs either way.

As far as i'm aware, it was cost that ruled lydden out of the situation

I think the championship regs explian it. Clearly shows which "drivers" cannot race in the class.
This will allow more clubman to compete closely and for a class
championship. I already know of 1 Escort Cossy being built for the class
plus 3 subaru's, should be a good class. Invited to selected events.

Having a glance at the regs it looks like it's mainly a "driver" restriction, but I have spotted there are a few notes which really effect most supercars. 100Db noise limit and no antilag allowed (should be interesting with those big old turbos!!).

Anyone spotted anything else obvious that I've missed at a glance?

Great to see so many drivers committing to racing in the 2014 BTRDA Clubmans Rallycross Championship.

Should be a great season, some new names, some new cars, some new classes.

BTRDA Clubmans Rallycross Championship Is Back............

After 18 months of solid hard work under taken by the BTRDA Rallycross Committee and other interested parties the BTRDA have now announced their 2014 calendar and class structure.

In 2013 the BTRDA Clubmans Rallycross didn’t take place due to the limited number of rallycross venues available and the prohibitive costs of hiring circuits in the UK.

For 2014 a compact calendar has been announced (see below) which will see the Championship visit 3 circuits, with the drivers able to drop one score at the end of the season. The organisers have kept the traditional double points opportunity for the last round which will take place at the Croft Circuit.

The calendar also see’s the return of the Blyton Rallycross Circuit, however not as it was known. The new circuit will only use around 30% of track which was used prior to 2013. The layout will be tighter and twistier and is more in line with a European Circuit than one normally seen in the UK. It will also be the “only” circuit in the UK to run in an anti-clockwise direction which is sure to add an extra dimension for all competitors.

2014 Calendar;
  •  Round 1 February 9th Blyton Circuit, Lincolnshire (2wd only)
  •  Round 2 March 9th Blyton Circuit, Lincolnshire (2wd only)
  •  Round 3 June 7th Pembrey Circuit, South Wales (2wd & 4wd)
  •  Round 4 June 8th Pembrey Circuit, South Wales (2wd & 4wd)
  •  Round 5 August 17th Pembrey Circuit, South Wales (2wd & 4wd)
  •  Round 6 November 16th Croft Circuit, County Durham (2wd & 4wd)

In addition to the six round Championship calendar the BTRDA have also announced that a “stand alone”, class-less event will once again take place this time at the Blyton Circuit. Now re-named as the “BTRDA Clubmans Rallycross Trophy” this event follows on from the extremely successful 75th Anniversary Rallycross event which recently took place at the Croft Circuit. John Rook said “The recent Croft event was a massive success and with this in mind and feedback from drivers we have decided to run this event again and to the same format as recently used”. Tim Whittington (Rallycross World) recently said “It may not seem like it, but today’s club event at Croft might well have been the single most important rallycross to have taken place in the UK this year”.
  •  BTRDA Clubmans Rallycross Trophy November 30th Blyton Circuit, Lincolnshire (2wd only)

Although the Championship hasn’t run in 2013, the BTRDA Rallycross Committee are very confident that the 2014 Championship will be a huge success.

Bill Skermer, BTRDA Championship co-ordinator said “With the huge interest shown at the recent Croft event, as well as continued enquiries on the back of the BBC 2 Top Gear feature we are very positive about the coming 2014 season. We have had over 150 enquiries about Clubman Rallycross in the past 18 months. If we can get some of these drivers to come and have a go as well as current Clubman competitors then we believe we will have a stable base of around 50-60 competitors at each Championship round”

The past 18 months has also seen the BTRDA Clubmans Rallycross Committee work hard on a class structure which allows a wide range of vehicles to be used whilst keeping within the ethics that this should be the entry level Championship into the sport of Rallycross.

2014 BTRDA Clubmans Rallycross Championship Class Structure;
  •  Clubman Supercar
  •  Super Modified (sub divisions; Up to 1600cc, 1601cc to 2100cc and 2100cc+)
  •  Production (sub divisions; Up to 1600cc 8v, Up to 1600cc 16v, Up to 1600cc VVT, 1601cc to 2000cc)
  •  BMW Mini
  •  Classic Minicross
  •  Junior Rallycross (any Junior Rallycross vehicle up to 1400cc)

This structure allows for a wide range of cars and budgets as well as giving the competitor the structural ladder to progress to a higher class once they have familiarised themselves with the sport.

For 2014 the class structure see’s the introduction of a Clubman Supercar class which although still follows MSA and FIA regulations for competing cars, it does have restrictions on the drivers which can take part. Supercar drivers will be invited to 4 out of the 6 Championship event and will have their own class championship.

The Super Modified class operates as it did previously, with the only change being “Modified 2000” cars being moved into a newly titled “Production” class. This Production class will now include all those cars which previously raced in Stockhatch, Hot Hatch and Modified 2000 plus the introduction of a new Up to 1600cc VVT (Variable Valve Timing) sub division which will allow for newer faster machinery.

The MDA (Minicross Drivers Association) will once again have 2 classes within the BTRDA Championship which are for the BMW Mini and the Classic Minicross cars. The only change within the BMW Mini class will be the introduction of a “Supercharged” class for this vehicle.

For the first time the Championship will move away from a single make Junior class (previously Rover Mini and Ford KA) and instead align their regulations in line with the MSA regulations for Junior Rallycross Cars which allows any make of vehicle up to 1400cc, providing it has a Junior Rallycross log book.

Competitors are still able to compete in Rallycross, without having to do an ARDS test and only need a minimum license of a “Non Race National B”.

For any clubman competitor, costs and track time are very important this is why the registration fee for the Championship is ONLY £50 which includes BTRDA membership. Entry fee’s will be kept as competitive as possible whilst making all events viable and are likely to be around the £195 mark. Any Racing driver will tell you that track time is very important and this is why the Championship events will feature; Open Practice, minimum 4 lap heats and 5 lap finals.

With the Championship calendar announced, class structure in place and a whole host of old and new drivers ready to race the 2014 BTRDA Clubmans Rallycross Championship has all the ingredients to the best Championship seen for many years.

There is a little over 2 months until the first Championship event on February 9th at the Blyton Circuit in Lincolnshire, the scene is set for a great year.

Nice to see Blyton back, is there a reason why all the rounds there are 2 wheel drive only?

The track at blyton is not as it used to be. The large section of loose now is tarmac. The new blyton track is a lot smaller, think more like duivelsberg, and only has a msa licence for 2wd and up to 6 cars (i believe)
