Sound of V8

Has anybody heard any of the new V8s yet? I haven't seen any footage of teams testing and was wondering what these new machines sound like

Kirk has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
Judging by the sound of your typical Champ Car running at far fewer revs, it should be deafeningly loud I would think.

I heard on the rumour mill that Honda have spent £65million pounds on their V8, Why? when they could just cut of two cylinders off

Their are some seriously good V8 engines out there

In that video clip posted by ASCII Man, am I right in seeing that the V8 is maxing out at 20,002 revs? I realize in race conditions, this is unlikely to happen but, that's still impressive for a V8.

My brother went to a test day and grabbed a vid with a digital camera of the V8 in the McLarens - sounds nice, but F1 is more suited to the V10 scream I think...

I've heard the Honda, Mercedes, Renault and Toyota V8's they don't sound anywhere nearly as exciting as the old V10's schrill scream...but then at 18 to 20k rpm they don't sound as crude as the old Cosworth DFV's did either.

Frankly you wouldn't know they were V8's, and sadly I thought they sounded dull and very uninspiring indeed, after years of hearing screaming V10's and whaling V12's

So many other formula have V8's, it's a real shame to have taken away that unique F1 music!

However, if they do manage to get 20k rpm, the sound is bound to still be unique.

Disagree with you here I'm afraid. For me F1's unique music is an orchestra of V8s, V10s, V12s (and if we are very good children V16s)! It seems a pity to have just one of any type of engine.

Being a hillclimb type, we have predominantly V8's but a few V6's and a V10. The V10 sounds incredible because of the revs but the most pleasing is the V6's
Mr Mosley, you should have gone for 2.4 litre V6's!

He should be going for 1.8 V6's in the near future.

I agree with you, why limit the nuber of cylinders? fine have a maximum capacity, but let the engineers decide which is the best format
