Round 11 Race Thread :Zolder (Race Spoilers)

Round 11 of the Champcar World Series heads back to Europe and the Famous Zolder Circuit in Belgium.

Obviously Champcar have never raced here before so there are no previous winners , so this year its new territory for everyone.

Will Bourdais take command ?
Can Will Power fight back
Will the Europeans such as Doornbos , Jani and Gommendy come to the fore in their (sort of) local races ? (I guess you could chuck Bourdais in there as well LOL)

The track is an interesting one and should provide some great racing.

SLK55 should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
I fancy that the fastest laptime over the weekend will be set by one of the Euroboss cars. Likely to be Klaas in the Ascari Benetton unless Nigel Greensall makes an appearance in his Benetton.
Should be an entertaining weekend whatever happens with some great racing.

Closest to a "home race" for Bourdais, and he will want to make a "statement".

I'm not that familiar to the EuroBOSS Series. However I understand they use newer F1 cars than the Thoroughbred Series, plus there are cars from other series. I even saw a picture of an IRL car. Can anybody tell me some more about this series. I'm really looking forward to seeing it this weekend.

But of course I'm looking most forward to the BRL. It will be my third BRL weekend of the year and if it's half as good as last time in Zolder I will be satisfied.

My money is on Bourdais. But i expect Jani to challenge him.

shame this event clashes with Formula 1 (i think) i will however tape it, and have a motorsport sunday in front on the TV

Any rumors or confirmed 1 off european entries for the 2 events?

Looks like Jan Heylen won't be able to drive again today after the big crash this morning. Bad luck for the Belgian.

Apparently it was dangerous Dan Clarke's fault as he caused a 4 car installation lap crash. So only 14 cars took part.

It was not Speedy Dan who caused the accident, I don't know where you read that.

Jan Heylen's engine apparently died, Wilson tried to avoid him but hit Clarke. The latter one was pushed into Jan's car. Tracy also ended up running into the back of the RSports car.

Will Power did indeed drive World Series by Renault at Zolder in 05, I was there.

Heylen said he slowed down to let Wilson pass him, and Clarke crashed into Wilson...

However, the story of the session came from Doornbos' teammate, Dan Clarke, who triggered a four-car accident on everybody's installation lap.
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/61705

and Clarke's been barred from racing this weekend:
Quote:
“This morning's incident on track was totally unacceptable and, as a result, Dan Clarke will be barred from further participation in this event,” Cotman told the assembled media, “I will also make an assessment, next Friday, prior to the Assen event, as to whether he will be able to participate there or not."

Then ChampCarWorld had their description of the accident wrong.

In my opinion he should have been punished but not like this. It's such a small field and taking a car out will only hurt the spectators. A big fine or grid penalty would have done the deal.

I guess there is every chance of an appeal.

Minardi USA will be able to replace Clarke. I guess the two seater drivers would be favourites, along with Dominguez, is Matos present by any chance ?

Isn't Mario going to drive the two seater? I think it will be either him or a Dutch driver that will get the Minardi seat this weekend.

Mario Dominguez has been drafted in to replace Clarke, making Minardi his fourth team of the season.
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/61728

Quote:
Will Power grabbed a guaranteed front-row starting slot for Champ Car's inaugural Grand Prix of Belgium when he turned in a lap of 1:13.810 around the 2.622-mile road course in Zolder.

Power and Team Australia teammate Simon Pagenaud put on the softer red-walled Bridgestones for their final runs, and it was Power that emerged on top, beating Newman/Haas/Lanigan Racing's Sebastien Bourdais (who stayed on the harder black compound) by a little over 0.2 seconds.

Pagenaud and Bourdais' teammate Graham Rahal took third and fourth, ahead of Bruno Junqueira, who continues to impress with the Dale Coyne Racing car.

Robert Doornbos's qualifying compounded Minardi Team USA's tough weekend - following Dan Clarke's exclusion from the event - with a major engine failure for the No. 14 car.

Minardi USA cant take a trick. Expect a big run from Doornbos with a fresh engine though tomorrow.
