The fastest lap was not in traffic - it was in clean air (obviously). You're doing your best to argue about absolutely everything, but no amount of telling people to watch the race or asking for intelligent people will make you right.

ESM car was on fire briefly.
Porsche to the lead in GTLM. But the BMWs will be tough to hold off. And raindrops in the pit lane. This should be fun. Pilet out front, and Bruni at the back |

The catching up was done in traffic. As I said.

Seems to have stopped raining. The Conti wet tyres are terrible, I would have gone for slicks

Good gamble by the 31. I think this'll be drying out.

I think the caddy's might not need another stop after the caution and slowed pace

Even in the dry sectors, the cars on wets are faster. The Continentals are so hard that they aren't getting up to temperature with the wet, so when they get to the dry sector, they're still too slow.
It needs to dry out quickly. Edit: Dry tyres faster than time round. They've finally got temperature into the tyre. |

I've said this several times here and elsewhere, it's pretty stupid to allow DPIs performance upgrades in what's supposed to be a BOP class. LMP2 is supposed to be the benchmark. Well, it took them almost to the season's halfway point, but job done. Best LMP2 and best DPI are equal in overall performance.
However, in a BOP category, it's a dumb idea to allow performance upgrades, since there's supposed to be no incentive for that to happen. I myself want minimal BOP in the top prototype category, but try telling that to the guys who write the checks. Even if Audi were spending only $15 million a season in the ALMS at the peak of their involvement (only being a relative term, but $15 million on the ALMS for Audi Sport was a ton smaller than their LM budget, even back then, let alone the past couple of years of them being in the WEC), I don't think that most DPI teams will want to spend even half that if they can avoid it. Hence BOP and the attempt--worthwhile or futile--to use it to control costs. |
