What do you lot make your front splitter supports out of??
I'm going to attempt to build a front splitter for my TVR Tuscan racer this weekend out of 12mm marine ply (as a first go). I need something to hold it up at the front and I've seen these on loads of cars but what are they called and where do I buy them?? Any tips for making splitters?? What's a good distance to stick out from the airdam??

Clevis is the word youre looking for .
most Marine Chandlers,DIY or Race car/parts suppliers will have these and the associated steel cables that hold them up . |

'12mm marine ply' sounds heavy. Call these guys 'Autocross' based in Wokingham Berkshire 0118 979 7999. They have pre cut splitters on the shelf in various shapes and sizes made out of some form of plastic composite; not too heavy and only 4-5mm thick.
I happened to be passing them with my peugoet 205 racer on the trailer and we offered up a couple of splitters and found one which followed the bumper line perfectly; but I'm sure if you tell them the car and a few measurements they can probably supply without the need to see the car. My splitter was a lot wider than the car but with a little cutting it looks the business. Very reasonably priced, looks the part and saved me a great deal of time. For the supports I bought some alluminium tube from dare I say it 'B and Q', cut it to length, squashed the ends in a vice, bent them over, drilled a couple of holes and secured them to the splitter and bumper. All done for less than £50 and it's enhanced the looks of the car. |

TCS,
Clevis at the end,; if you want to be able to adjust length, tighten it and so on, a 'turnbuckle' in the middle. Andy, To use alloy tube like that, of for any strut, it can be better to insert a piece of flat alloy bar into the partly crushed end. 3-4mm thick, a little experimentation will reveal how wide the piece must be. Then drilling the composite provides a very strong anchor. Steved, That looks interesting! What adhesive would you use to laminate PVC, or fabricate a box, say, out of the stuff? John |

thanks for the advice guys, I will check those guys in Wokingham out as I'm only round the corner in Surrey. I say 12mm marine ply purely because I got a huge sheet for 30 quid so its cheap and easy to make the first attempt out of. A good friend of mine does composite stuff so as soon as I have the shape and some fixing points sorted on the car, I'll take the prototype down to my mate and have him knock one up out of carbon-honeycomb sandwich.
I asked Demon Tweeks if they sold anything for the supports and they suggested light stays so bought a pair of these: http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/Motors...s/1599/0/22804 worth a try?? |

We used some of these, worked a treat. We used some rod ends to attach them to the splitter.
