2013 @ Mallory

A couple of 'changes' for the new season.

Those of you there yesterday may have noticed the siren on each Marshals Post - a new telephone system has been put in, with even the Bus Stop flag point having one.

Secondly the Motocross track is dead - or rather it will be after this Sunday. So no more two stroke noise or dust blowing all over Post 2. This has been agreed with Hinckley & Bosworth Council as part of the on going 'noise issue'.

Is the siren for the red flag, like the buzzers at each post at Pembrey?

No Mike, it's for the telephone only, & seriously loud.

Ah. The system at Pembrey for the red flag is that when Race control calls a red flag a buzzer sounds at each post so that the red flag can brought out at the same time. No extra wiring is required as its all done via the phone cable.

I think that's probably a bit too technical

We were very impressed yesterday with the 20 metres or so of unconnected cable left on the grass at Post 5 . . . now safely gathered up & dumped behind the Armco!

Crikey, it looked like quite a lot of development effort had been put into that last season.

The dust and noise could certainly be distracting but there were some great photo opportunities to fill in gaps in the track schedule.

However I could imagine the noise would be very aggravating locally.

Living close to Donington one of the things I noticed when it went through it enforced closure a few years ago was just how noisy birds can be. All day long. Nothing you can do about it of course though I was minded once or twice to write to the council and complain.

Crows and gulls make especially unpleasant sounds but the rest can be just as bad. "Song birds" some of them may be but after a very short while it's like listening to the same handful of tunes on Radio One day after day - only worse because these go on year after year.

I wonder if a letter to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Birds might help?

The 'noise issue' @ Mallory was caused a couple of years ago by 'Drift cars' going on late into the night. Ever since then, somebody only has to f..t at the track and the Councils phones start ringing.

The box appeared to be fully wired - this was just a random length of wire doing nothing in particular!

So surely it should have disposed of correctly then Dave, and not dumped behind the armco!

Hmm. That's a shame. Doesn't take much I guess.

Might be worth hinting that a group of, shall we say, "mobile workers" has put in a generous offer to buy the place with a view to converting it back to a trotting track with long term leisure camping options and some re-cycling facilities.
