GT2 will initially be slotted into the current Blancpain GT Sports Club races, so race formats will likely remain the same, and the spec Pirelli too.

Driver changes probably not as Sports Club doesn’t currently.

The Sports club races are two difference lengths each weekend, I think it’s like 25 mins and 50 mins

GT2 will likely be rolled out to British GT and SRO in America and Asia the following year, as well as being opened up to VLN and I guess Creventic

Twelve 911 GT2 Clubsports and three 935s to contest the first races this weekend. There will be two 30 minute races, on Friday and Saturday. Could be carnage, could be very dull.

Only thing surprising on that list is that Grasser are running a car.

A precursor to the Lamborghini Super Trofeo - GT2 conversion?

Cant imagine Porsche would object too much to Grasser doing some GT2 learning seeing as Lamborghini are a fellow VAG Group brand.

Good spot. Mark Ineichen related to the Grasser driver Rolf?

More info of the Audi R8 LMS GT2:
This car develops 640 horsepower (1350 kg), compared to 495 (1460 kg) GT4 model and up to 585 (1225 kg) GT3 model.
To buy an Audi R8 LMS GT2, it will cost 338,000 euros, 60,000 euros less than the GT3 version and 140,000 more than the GT4.

That is a cool looking car, I somehow managed to miss any of the pictures in the initial press info. Interesting technical info on the car in that article. It borrows from the GT3 front suspension and the GT4 rear.

Probably be cost effective for Audi to pick from the GT3/4 parts bin for the GT2 car

Okay, first race was okay ..... bit of a demonstration but a good scrap between Christian Reid and Chris Hoy - fair play to Hoy as he got his elbows out quite fairly and gave it a real go, 5th not a big enough reward.
Cars sounded good, looked good and were reliable - just need double the number and a few different chassis.
For me ..... it worked.

Got to say I’ve enjoyed the GT2 demo racing this weekend, the cars see. Well suited to Am’s allowing for confidence, and decent racing

Give us 20+ car fields and more than 4-5 chassis and I think there’s a great formula there

I’ve always liked Am only racing, less experience causes more variables, mistakes and essentially in theory more racing

The 935 tribute cars look good. The GT2s look like 911 Cup cars. Pretty underwhelming. I’m not sure the racing world needs more 911 variants tbh.

Remember that is the only time you will ever see the GT2 911 running in a 911 only race.

Audi are already confirmed, to be joined by at least one other manufacturer in 2020, and possibly a total of 6 manufacturers by end of 2020.

The Audi definitely looks more exciting than the 911

Porsche Motorsport keeps bagging money with this, and that's what matters to them. Making money isn't hard in itself... What's hard is to earn it doing something worth devoting one’s life to.

Are you able to breathe with your high horse being that high an altitude?

Porsche make cars for customers to buy. Customers buy them. Customers race them. Customers are happy.

Get back to me when your money-making scheme makes a positive impact on the world.

Completely off topic. I was expecting more from you, specially knowing that a 3rd GT2 car will be presented at Barcelona.

Porsche at least race a different car in GT4.

Great though the GT2 Audi R8 looks, it now means that Audi race the same 13-year old car in GT2, 3 and 4.

I hope that GT2 means that GT4 can become the place to race smaller sports and coupes, like the 718, Alpine, Ginetta etc, rather than tame versions of AMG, R8 and Vantage supercars.

Just back at our apartment after spa ...... the second GT2 race on saturday was a bit more of a procession but still entertaining - well done to Chris Hoy agin - he proved that he is a 'racer' once again.

Have to agree that if Porsche (or whoever) build these cars, customers buy them and want to race them, who are we to complain?
Porsche have put a fair bit of money into gt2/3 & 4 over the last two seasons, and yes, they have made money out of it, but so what? They are a business after all.

From my perspective - fair play to them and good to see them back and especially supporting a new initiative!

DSC believes that Ferrari is the next GT2 car.
Lamborghini, Mercedes AMG, McLaren, and Aston Martin, all of those are believed to be working on GT2 versions of the same base cars that furnish their current customer GT3 efforts.

I believe Rob Bell has confirmed at some point this year that McLaren are working on another race car, I can’t remember where it was but he was being interviewed in the booth during a race.

My bet is the Barcelona announcement will be by McLaren, Ferrari or Lamborghini.

Mercedes said not long ago they won’t be preparing a GT2 for the start of 2020.

KTM should be firmly counted In the mix too but seems the production car quantity rule is holding them up for now
