Horst Kwech

Horst Kwech has died. Born in Austria ,raised in Australia and most of his racing career was in the US especially in Trans Am in its glory years in the late 60s early 70s. He was always a front runner in the (I believe) Under 2.5 Litre division in Trans Am in Alfa Romeos but later raced Ford Mustangs in the main class and also racing in F5000.

The K in DeKon, those Monzas were a presence in Aus motorsport.

Didnt get a opportunity to see him race, his record says he could steer.

'Saw Horst at Road Atlanta (1975 IMSA Camel GT, race one of two 100 milers) in his DeKon Monza(Chassis 1001) debut. 'Qualified 5th but charged to the front, only to be knocked off course (and out of the race) by a Camaro (iirc) he was passing at the kink on the back straight. He got out of his car and made his way over and popped that driver in the helmet through the window. 'Didn't come out for race 2......
Didn't know he ran F5000....in '82 he ran CanAm under 2 litres.

(Al Holbert won the IMSA Camel GT Championship in '76 with a DeKon Monza (1008) and a Porsche 934; again in '77, with Monza 1014.)
