Hello Dann
Yes, I believe I presently own your former car. Chassis # JW4 7030D. It was red prior to the previous owner repainting it.The bodies were made by "Specialised Mouldings Ltd." of England. I had been trying to contact you Dann, as you were listed as a previous owner in the pile of documentation that came with the car, but the ph.#'s I have are outdated. Can you tell me when you owned the car and who you bought and sold it to ? Does Tom Gano, Wayne Lynden or Dana Freeman sound familiar ? As I mentioned in a previous message, I own a set of moulds for the car , but I have yet to pick them up in Ont.,Canada.I don't know if the moulds are factory moulds or if they were made by Bob Long, the Canadian importer of these cars. I also bought the remaining spares from Bob. Bob is still quite active in the modern F4 cars, still designing, building and winning championships. I have put the car up for sale, as after doing a track day, it is quite apparent that I am much too large for the car....6'-2" and 185 lbs. Very difficult to shift and get my large foot to and from the clutch. I am used to a tight fit as I race a Lotus Europa presently, but this car is much more cramped for me. The car runs very well, but we have installed a new clutch, new tires (same as the original Dunlops),and new safety belts. Happy New Year Bob |

Hi Bob,
Wow! What a coincidence. I guess I was wrong about the word composite. You refreshed my memory with Specialized Mouldings. Who knows about Arch Motors and the frame. I'm familiar with some of the names you mentioned. I bought the car from a man in Tiburon near San Francisco in the '80's. He lived on top of a steep hill and my test drive was down the hill in an up-scale neighborhood and back up the hill to his house. Thank God I didn't kill it at the bottom. I was going to vintage race it but never did. I just took some runs around my neighborhood in it. I did enter it in a concours and won first place in the retired race car class. The next owner was Wayne Lyndon. He was big into vintage racing at the time. His wife, Lynn, actually was to drive it in a vintage event at Sears Point. She did run it at that event. As you probably know the vibrations are extremely high (something I noticed as well). She joked that the fillings in her teeth came loose and she couldn't see the track because her eyeballs were bouncing around too much. I next time I saw the car it was on display in 1995 in Pacific Grove near Monterey as part of the Rolling Concours, an event held during the Monterey Historic Races and the Pebble Beach Concours. I think Wayne had sold it to Tom Gano whom I had met earlier when he was associated with Victory Lane magazine. He was talking about possibly installing a Yamaha 650 as it was smoother and had a starter. I had thought about this as well. I don't know the owner after Tom; Dana Freeman? I got a call years ago from a new owner asking about the car after it was purchased. I think that owner was still in Northern California. That's the last I heard about until I saw your posting. I was just wondering about the formula and did a Google search and found this website. Sorry I can't tell you more. The trailer I had in the picture came with the car. I think it was a snowmobile trailer. It is a unique car and in good shape apparently. Just find someone small to buy it. Currently I have a Lotus 7. It's a former race car but now is just used on the street and in shows. Thanks for the quick reply. Dann |

Thank you for the info ! Yes, I am quite aware of the vibration...caused my lungs to tickle and send me in to coughing fits !! Bob Long said that all of the cars he imported , he rubber mounted the engine to stop this issue. I had planned to do that fix. He also suggested adding a oil cooler to the oil return line...said the car will run at 6800RPM all day long if this is done. I have the oil cooler to install as well. To the best that I can tell from the info I have is that Dana Freeman had the car from new until 198? Then unknown ,then you from 1982?-1987,Wayne Lynden 1988-?,Tom Gano ?-2002,Robert Smith 2002-2003,Michael Nickels 2003-2006, Robert Hutless 2006-2009, and I have had it since Jan 3, 2009. Looks like the car was only raced once in it's life in 1988 by Wayne Lynden, at a VMR Fall Classic event. But I don't know the results. I do have the log book and the log book pics which looks like they may have been taken at Sears Pt. ? I tried to look up VMR , but no luck. Guessing it was a vintage group. Do you have any suggestions on contacts who might know of this group ? Thanks again for the information Bob |

I was just going through the JW4 Paperwork....did you possibly purchase the car from a John Streets ? I see that he had inquired to Dana Freeman in Oct. of 1982 about the car. Mr. Streets lived in Redwood City, Ca. Mr. Freeman resided in North Reading, Massachusets. I guess this would have been the point when the car came from the East Coast. In speaking with Bob Long, he believes the car would have been brought to the U.S. by the Florida importer. He does not show that he imported this car. Happy Motoring Bob |

Hi Bob,
Yes, Wayne and Lynn ran it at Sears Point, at least Lynn. VMR was a Northern California Vintage racing club. It no longer exists as far as I know. I did not buy the car from John Streets. I've met him at vintage events. He owns some interesting old English race cars including some from the 500cc group from the '50's. The person I bought it from is a former airline pilot who also owned a BMW dealership (at the time) somewhere in the east. He also owned an amphibious airplane. I forget his name but I have a mutual friend and can probably get it for you. I'll also try to get a hold of Wayne who was very active in vintage racing in the 80's and 90's. Cheers, Dann |

Pringett Mistrale
Back in July 2005, Marcus Mussa wondered if any of the formula ford Pringett Mistrale's remained? Well they do or should I say one does. I have chassis number 14 which is a MK2. In total there were 17 built, 10 MK1 and 7 MK2.
For the last 6 years or so I have hill climbed the car and can confirm they are a delight to drive. I have developed the car for hill climbing, but have kept all of the original engine and wheels to ensure authentcity should I decide to sell the car. A couple of years ago Autocar magazine did a large centre spread featuring the car and the original constructors, Ron PRINGle and Jerry CorbETT. The JW was also mentioned in the forum. At the time of its launch Johnie Walker was invited as guest after dinner speaker at the BARC West Midlands Centre Dinner Dance. To our suprise he arrived complete with the first JW and insisted it was displayed in the ballroom! We soon lifted into place and danced around the car all evening. |

Mystery F4
I have acquired this F4. it has been severely butchered, and doesn't have its original uprights (photos of the originals are attached). Ran an Imp engine and box. Ended up being 'shortened' for hillclimbing in the Mid 1980's.
I have had contact with one of its owners from that period, but he can't remember who he and his co-owner bought it from. Sadly the co-owner is deceased. Ran in the Dutton Forshaw F4 champioship apparently! Last edited by pantah; 7 Nov 2011 at 16:25. Reason: Sorry - forgot photos - in next reply... |

It is a 'Broadhirst MK2' (May have been spelled Broadhurst). Owners include K. Rhodes of Rochdale and prior to that a Jack England of Haywood Lancashire. One of those must have been running in the Dutton Forshaw F4 Championship. Can anyone shed any light on this or have any photos? |
