They've got every reason to force him to resign now. NASCAR may be a family business but Brian doesn't hold a good hand of cards now. He's made several dumb decisions with the sport and the sanctioning body, pushed though too much change too fast and alienated fans, and now this just all but confirms all the joke and ridicule about him being a drunkard and a druggie. He doesn't even have a significant ownership stake in NASCAR--his uncle Jim and sister Leeza have tons more ownership stake than Brian has.

I'd have to say that if he's found guilty/pleads guilty, he's done.

It'd be short sighted to place all of NASCAR's problems in Brian's lap, but he certainly hasn't helped matters and him getting busted certainly doesn't do his credibility any good.

The smart and sensible thing would be for him to step down. If he makes it his own decision he'd even get some cred for doing the right thing.

Then again...

I'm not so sure doing the smart thing will be even considered.

Well, if what I read is true - and I'm not one of those idiots who believes Police Officers are the bad guys - then he has to go, simple as.

If he doesn't then that would associate NASCAR with an image of it being fine to drug/ drink drive, which of course it isn't.

Let's hope he does the decent thing and resigns; I'm sure there'd be forgiveness to an admission of making a bad mistake; heck we all make mistakes.

Who would likely run the show going forward - any ideas?

Jim France of IMSA fame--and Brian's uncle--is interim head of NASCAR for the immediate future. Brian has all but stepped down by taking and indefinite leave of absence.

Not managed to see any of Watkins Glen - yet - but glad to see young Chase break his 0fer. First of many many victories to come I'm sure.

My misty memory thinks this is the first time for a while a Chevy has gotten to victory lane; glad to see the Hendrick cars getting that bit better as the season progresses.

Typical Brian and NASCAR. Trying to take all the headlines away from Chase.

Pretty cool the Dawsonville drivers BOTH getting their first on the road course. It's in their blood!!

I hear Bill is going to try the Xfinity (or whatever) race at Road America....

Brendan Marks, writing in the Charlotte Observer:

Quote:
But while [Brian] France seeks help in his personal life, his peers must do the same professionally. France has long been a liability as NASCARís head honcho ó he has made cars safer than ever before and instituted a playoff format, yes, but heís also watched as his sport crumbles and disappears from the public consciousness.

Donít mince words: NASCAR has been a wreck under France. Now, if thereís any hope of saving the spare parts, it must be with someone else behind the wheel.

I read this too; he's 62 years old now if I remember correctly what I read! Is this a record in NASCAR? Be good to see the old boy behind the wheel, show the youngsters a few things!

Not quite...Morgan Shepard still competes at 76!!

And a quick search shows Hershel McGriff is the oldest to drive a NASCAR sanctioned event at 90. Didn't know he was still alive!!!

But pretty Shepard has got to be the oldest to compete in the big 3.

I wouldn't be surprised if Trump names Brian France as NHTSA director.

Wow! Was pretty amazed by Bill running at 62, had no idea that some guys are still up for it and fit & healthy enough at the higher numbers. I guess some NASCAR drivers are made of good stuff. Oldest driver I could remember off the top of my head was Mario Andretti, think he was 55 when he hung up his helmet.

From McGriff's wiki page:

Quote:
He became the oldest driver to win a NASCAR feature race when he won an AutoZone West Series race in 1989 at the age of 61.
And I didn't realize he had 4 GN / Cup wins, all in 1954. The next year, he turned down a ride to be closer to home. The second choice for that ride? Tim Flock. Won 18 races and the championship in 55.

Ford introduced the new "Mustang" for NASCAR competition next year. Amazing the detail they get with stickers, almost looks like a Mustang instead of a Fusion with the Lisa Frank (or whatever the 'guy' version is) sticker kit.

Well stupid Tapatalk has stopped loading pictures but it's on Racer and I'm sure other sites
