Can you build a muffler ????

"The Australian Karting Association Inc. is requesting expressions of interest for an Exhaust Muffler for all 100cc Yamaha restricted Classes"...
Persons or Companies who would be interested in Supplying a controlled muffler should make contact with the AKA.
The following "basic" requirements are to be conformed with :

The complete muffler must be Australian Made.
The muffler must not exceed the maximum 88dba noise level using the current method in the Manual.
That a used muffler maintain the same performance level as a new muffler.
As post race inspection will be of upper most importance preference will be given to a design with a simple check method.
Muffler manufactured to these specs must maintain a similar performance level to current mufflers.
The supply of this muffler will be in a similar method to that of tyres used in a controlled classes, ie. by tender for a specific period. The project is is to get underway as soon as possible so that some decisions can be made at the National Conference.

More Information can be obtained from the National Secretary or write to the Australian Karting Association Inc..

We already use a "control" exhaust in National class, a Powermac system.

In the short time we have been racing it dosen't seem to be a problem, eveybody has exactly the same system.

I presume this new one would be for the Clubman class, They are still pretty noisy. There has been some discussion about the current noise measurement precedure and lack of its implementation at all race meetings.

If they have a control muffler instead of expensive and complicated measuruing procedures the muffler is checked at scrutineering.

Is it the correct control make and model? tick.
Has it been modified in any way? tick.

Noise control finished.

That's what we call the exhaust system, particularly when it involves some attempt to reduce (or muffle) the noise.

So what other names can we come up with?

yep ive heard something about this as well Ralfie..not sure if its true or what the exact details are but there are plans afoot.

it really is a ridiculous situation and the ones who suffer are the guys who pay for their racing themselves..i will have a hunt around and see what i can find.
