Restricted radio communication
I noticed over the weekend at brands hatch that due to not having 'open' communication with race control the same information, for example loose body work, or Ginetta #91 being on fire were being communicated to race control by post chiefs around the circuit, none of whom would be aware whether or not other posts had already called it in.
I believe this can lead to several scenarios including something vitally important sits in the queue of calls to race control while RC process the same info 5 or 6 times, or no-one reports something because they assume it has already been done. Surely this kind of closed communication while good for security is going to be detrimental to safety at some point. Any thoughts. |

This particular topic and the whys and wherefores has had a lot of attention and discussion among a number of parties and is I imagine the subject of ongoing conversations.
Not something I'll go into on a public forum. Dave |

... I agree - best left for private discussions.

Maybe I'm not reading enough into this but it all seems perfectly straightforward to me, the "Radios" used at Brands by the pc's replace the telephones which would not have been open to all listeners anyway, they are not supposed to be used in the conventional manner, ie "walkie talkies" but more "radio telephones" I'm pretty sure that during an incident an open channel available to all points would be instantly overwhelmed an would then require radio silence which would defeat the object.
Race control are usually pretty quick to point out if something is being observed so that not everyone phones it in. Or have I misunderstood the question (wouldn't be the first or last time...) |

I recently strayed from Brands Hatch and did a weekend at Snetterton where they have exactly the same radio technology. The big difference was that the communication was open; worked brilliantly!

As was previously stated by Dave this is currently the subject of discussions at a high level and it would be inappropriate to comment further at this time.
Perhaps a mod could lock/delete this thread. Ian |
