RIP Noriyasu Numata ...

i remember him being troy bayliss' team-mate when bayliss rode the rgv 250 at the phillip island gp & came 4th behind biaggi, waldmann & harada....

from a japanese translation...

Former 250cc GP Rider Numata Killed in Accident - About 11:00AM this morning (Sep 4). Numata who had participated in the test of the Dunlop tire in Okayama international circuit killed in an accident. The cause of an accident is still unknown.

Noriyasu Numata (1966-2007)
Japanese riders respected Numata. He fought fifty-fifty with Honda by the powerless RGV, making full use of his technique. He beat Ukawa in 1995 and Kato in 1996. He opted for the challenge to Grand Prix. But, Suzuki stopped developing 250 in order to do a focus to 500. Therefore, he competed for two years by the machine which does not progress. If he has gotten on other factory machine...

He was a fairly decent and quick factory Suzuki 250 rider if I remember.

Rode the Lucky Strike bike for a while in Japan and might ahve been Japanese champ, not sure.

Then rode the Virgin nike and the Rizla machines, shame he has died, guess that was why Haga was upset all weekend.

Yes he was, and I rememebr Jamie being very hacked off about ot because the bike was built around Nori and he was about 5 ft 1!

Hence in typical Japanese style the engineers didnt feel they needed to change anything about the specifications of the chassis to suit the bloke bringing a bit of money to the team!! lol

Its great being a Brit in GP racing.
